Stub Axle's Spline Count

Hey Fellas. I'm thinking about buying both Stub Axle's for my truck to change them out when I get a chance, but I keep coming up with conflicting information on this. I'm looking for some confirmation here on whether the Stub axles on my truck are 30 spline or 35 spline.. Thank you for any good info here. The vehicle is a late 99 F250 4X4 CC, with what I believe to be a D50 as well. The Dana 60 weren't installed on our trucks until 01 iirc.

IIRC, 2005 + was the first year for 35 splines for inner and outer...

Here’s how you identify your axle...

Both the D50 and D60 SRW axle assemblies in the first generation SuperDuty trucks use identical parts from the "knuckles-out". This includes the stub shafts and 1480 u-joints.

The tubes are even the same as are the outside dimensions of the center section(although they are slightly different in their castings). The beef from the D60 is only really derived from the larger, more numerous differential side gears' and inner axles' spline count. Obviously the ring gear is smaller diameter on the D50 as well but that's not really the weakest point.

If you ever get a chance to see inside a D60 center section side-by-side with the SD's D50, you'll see why the D50's actually weighs more though.

99-04 has 30 spline outer stubs, the Dana 50 and 60 use the same outers.

The Dana 60 front axle on single rear wheel pickups was only standard in 2002 and up. The Dana 60 was standard in dually pickups from 99 up.

Yep, you're right. Got excited and derailed my train of thought while typing.

Corrected.
