Unhappy I think I started a war with rockauto

I ordered a bunch of parts from rockauto and have several times.
I needed a few things and 4 of the parts I got were the wrong size or where a sloppy fit.
The upper rad hose I ordered GATES 20505 The hose was 1-3/8 inner dia. and not the 1-3/4 it was supposed to be.
The thermostat was too small even though being listed as the premium replacement.
The dist. cap is junk and is too loose to use.
The rotor also was a loose fit compared to the old part.

I did the return process, they wanted me to pay $24usd to return $26.85usd in parts.
I get $1.85 back. lol

I called my bank and they said to request a return authorization and a prepaid shipping label.
Now rock auto denied a response.
They have 15 days according to the bank before they get a charge back.
I probably wont be able to buy there now.

Rockauto doesn't deserve anyone's business, they have moved to a completely autonomous customer service system and it's a disaster.

Their business model (I think) is buying out old inventory and selling at competitive prices. They simply can't afford any returns on their dime, nobody can for that matter. Shipping is expensive. They'd be better off simply refunding your money probably.

That sucks. I'm fortunate that I've always gotten the right stuff from them.

last time i dealt with them they send me the wrong power window motor for a buick i was working on. they wanted me to pay the $16 return shipping on a $17 motor. i asked why i had to pay return shipping when they sent me the wrong part.
they could not understand how i ordered a buick window motor but received one for a toyota.

they finally admitted their mistake after two weeks and sent me the proper motor. and told me to keep the wrong one because it was not worth it to them to prepay to return it.
that was when i said never again.

Well I think this is the last time too be that sucks.
All the autopart places gouge regular customers here.
Lordco makes prices as you go same with NAPA.
You gotta beg napa for the loyalty price, lordco I have an account but they give huge discounts to government employees and businesses.
Amazon ca is a joke they charge double what they do on the com site on the best day, most or absolutely crazy wanting 2-300$ for the same part listed on the .com site thats listed at $36
I think rock auto gets returned and defective parts. 1 off s**t nobodys wants that they mix in with good stuff.

Its too bad.
The lack of customer service and the as***le attitudes is what did it for me.
They must have alot of mistakes and junk parts if they cant deal with $26 worth of parts vs losing a customer.

I'm also in contact with standard about the dist. cap and rotor.
Thats really their fault. They produced a piece of junk.
I'm buying NOS parts off Ebay that I know are oldschool USA parts.

Very discouraging for DIY

If I buy anything online, it's usually from TASCA.

They have all that overhead to factor in before they even sell anything, gotta keep the lights on, rent, taxes. The consolidated or regional warehouse model is tough to compete with. I don't believe the jobber discount is what it used to be either. I try to buy local sometimes, but it usually isn't worth the hassle. If I know what I need and I usually do, it's worth the convenience of having it delivered to my door. Auto parts are really tricky for catalog sales because of all the different applications a part might, or might not fit. And customers are sometimes pretty stupid too. Royal pain in the *** either way. That's the advantage to buying local, returns are a lot less hassle.

Thumbs down

Here is an example of amazon gouging
$62 for a $4 part.
I'll get right on that.

As to the engine mount, the US one is sold by Amazon.com. The one on the Canadian side is being sold by a 3rd party. That pricing disparity isn't Amazon.ca's fault, it's being set by the 3rd party. Since they're the only ones on the .ca side listing it, they can set whatever price they want.

I too have sworn off RockAuto... The prices tempt me, but their customer service sucks. I will not go into the details, but last order of $145 they left me high and dry on $100 of that (two payment methods, the one with $45 charge sided with me on dispute of charge, the other $100 was a Visa gift card and they denied my dispute).

I only use RockAuto for research now and will gladly pay a few more $$ to go with another vendor.
