horn goes off on its own, how to fix

Same here. Horn went off in the middle of the night waking up neighbors. In my case the horn switch went bad. this youtube video.
The switch is made of 2 layers of metallized plastic films. When the middle section of the steering wheel is pressed, the films are brought to contact. Once the pressure is off, the films are separated by a built-in spring mechanism. The mechanism became weak after years of use in my case. Check other possibilities such as stuck-closed relay, horn wire touching the ground, etc.

It could also be the horn relay in the battery box that's causing it, or the anti-theft module. Until you figure it out, it's much simpler to pull out the horn relay than it is to disconnect the battery. In fact you could remove the horn relay when you park it at night so that it never goes off.

My problem was solved when I replaced my worn out horn pad with a junk yard pull from 2001 Expedition. Ford sells horn pad + air bag as an assembly. That's all I can say. Good luck with your repair. Hopefully your problem is simpler than horn pad.

Thanks I didn't think I could find one in a junk yard intact, I'll try to stay away from Ford I can't image what that would cost, if that is the problem. It is getting old tapping the horn to stop the noise.
