Well, here I am. Have the mx+, down loaded forscan, and read the destructions several times. It won't connect. It says ELM not found try again. Elm is another brand right? I tried numerous times. If its not nails and hammers, or nuts and bolts, this is what happens. I truly am a technotard.

I know you are on a fruit phone, so it may be different than Android. I have to connect to the OBD scan tool first, then star whatever app I am going to use. So, I connect to the OBD scan tool via bluetooth, then wait a few seconds and start TP or Forscan Lite.

Does the scan tool have lights on it when you plug it into the truck turn the key to on? Is there a small button in the scan tool to make it searchable or able to be seen by searching devices?

yup, lites and small button at the bottom. I followed the 6 steps on the start up instructions.
Also, the apps to choose from were forscan lite, and forscan viewer. Haven't heard mention of (viewer) by anyone.

I had trouble connecting my MX to Forscan at first too. MX paired up easily to my Windows 10 laptop, all lights were on, but Forscan could not find it. Turns out Forscan saw every Bluetooth device in range and was trying to connect to my cell phone. In Forscan go to the "gear" icon and look at the connections tab. Click on the drop down box for Bluetooth Adapter and choose the one you want. Here's a pic. Hopefully your iOS version of Forscan is similar to the Win 10 version in this way.

ELM is the name of the company that developed the interface between OBDII and PC protocols. To simplify... when you say you're going to "Google" something - you might actually use "Bing". Your app is looking for an "ELM" device to translate the OBDII information. I'm not following the progress so far: Did you pair your device before opening FORScan?

Yes, after I was advised to try that. It connected but when I touched veh it does nothing. I still don't know what forscan view means. Is that the right app. Never saw (view) in any posts. Should I get forscan lite? That was an option. I tried it in both my 13 f 150 and 16 escape, not the SD, but that shouldn't matter.

Yes

Or, use a laptop and download Forscan for free.

Is this what's needed to work with Forescan on a computer?

I think that would work but most people like Bluetooth to avoid the cable. There are cheap Chinese clone versions of the ELM327, with mixed success. High end model is OBDLink MX.

And not all versions of FORScan are the same, here's a screen cap of their page comparing them. Viewer for iOS is evidently just a viewer, not a doer.
