Welcome to the board bwylie! Glad you decide to join FTE.
From your brief description it sounds like an Integrated Wheel End issue. It's not uncommon. We have a sticky post at the top of the forum since so many have had issues with it.

Generally, I don't read or trust people from other sites.
I like to see post from "known" members of this site.
But since you went to the trouble to link, I read.
The first link, just flush that.
New member with 6 post since Feb.
Looks like he joined to Troll.
Second link was ok, if you follow the link in there you actually get some info.
I ignore the guy with username "18RattleTrap".
Kind of speaks for itself and his intention.
Claims the 5.0 does it also.
( and if its the tranny he could be right)
But some good info there.
If you read it, you would have seen that the timing chain and phaser's have nothing to do with the noise.
Looks like at least one maybe 2 guys had them changed and still had the noise.
The one successful repair was accomplished by a PCM re flash.
The other guys are still looking for the answer and are now saying its in the tranny.
I have heard the noise on my truck... on startup in the past.
I have even been under it and remote started.
Mine is in the tranny.... however, I have not heard the noise in a long time.
I mostly get normal noise or an occasional ringing sound like a flywheel issue.
I am at 67k plus and not worrying about any of it.
I actually reported the strange start up noise to the dealer the first time they changed the oil pan.
Of course, they could not duplicate.
On Edit: I was speed reading so I may have missed some things,

I’m with KJ Smith on this; if everything I read on forums affected my purchasing habits I wouldn’t own a vehicle! My ‘11 FX4 EB sailed through 140k miles taking nothing but normal maintenance. The electric vacuum pump got lazy affecting the brakes somewhat but Ford replaced it free of charge. Best vehicle I ever owned.
I have a 3.5 EB in my ‘18 and I’m planning to ignore this posts’ warning of impending doom. This is how I operate: I keep everything topped up (which of course means I don’t have to do anything since there are no leaks), change oil every 5k, and then just drive the thing. This is a new gen EB with a new style transmission. I suppose I could keep my ear cocked listening for every noise but I don’t have time for that. The new trans has a lot going on inside, I suppose I should watch it like a hawk but since it’s shifting flawlessly, I’ll pass on that too.
All my F150s generally roll 100+k then get traded. Hopefully this one will uphold that tradition.
