I have seen threads and posts on something like that but it has been a couple of years. Drilling, tapping, plugging but I don't remember what they did to the pedestal vs the housing up top.

Here's one example and it looks like you are on the right track.

I believe Mercon V is fine for the xfer case, as is Mobil 1 ATF, someone will correct me if not.

Those hpop hoses are OE, I'd get new ones. When the old ones blow you're dead on the side of the road, with a gallon of oil "rust roofing" the engine bay.

According to Ford specs Mercon V is not to be used in transfer cases. Mercon LV has been approved for all transfer cases.

Here's a good place to get hpop hoses.

What the heck is Mercon 3? Was it Dexron 3?

Be gentle putting the fuel line back on the fuel pressure regulator, it's just pot metal and they break easy. Billet replacements are available.

Good luck with the broken thermostat bolt. At least it's in front. Could always drill it out since it's a thru bolt.

Gonna have to do water pump
bolt had a hard spot in it i was able to drill about 1/8” that was it
broke out the torch and got overzealous and blew some aluminum off
oh well!!

so water pump and two hpop hoses
might as well go ahead and rebuild the motor while im at it

the old dextron/mercon3

So i Hit up riff raff for some new hpop hoses,
navistar water pump as well as fittings on heads. Ouch that hurt .

forgot to mention yesterday i deleted the fuel heater as well. Back at it again soon

i have to mention in replacing all these fuel bowl and hpop orings all of them were still soft and not nicked . Kind of surprising. The only ones so far that were brittle were oil cooler and ipr. For whatever thats worth

Put new alt idler and tensioner setup on
pulled pedestal apart to discover i didnt have a 1/4” pt tap like i thought. And apparently none of the stores open on sunday around me do either.... so another set back.
went ahead and knocked out vc gaskets harnesses and glowplugs and yanked the old water pump off that i managed to butcher with a torch
