2000 Ford Expedition / Third Brake Light Bulb Sockets

Hello...I'm new to this forum, so please excuse if I don't do things correctly. I'm an old fart and techno challenged. On the subject Ford Expedition, I'm trying to locate bulb socket replacements for the third or high brake light harness so my vehicle will pass inspection. Anyone know of a link to get the right part for these? Found a DORMAN part that would fit last year at O'Rielly's Auto Parts, but it was not a right angle bulb socket like the original FORD part. I need one like the original part, so the light housing will fit back into the hole.

You can get the replacement LED unit easier than replacing one socket.

I'm guessing your light sockets melted enough to where the bulb is no longer contacting? I replaced my unit with the one Hamfisted linked, but modification is required to get it to fit in it's "hole". If you have a Dremel tool with cut-off blades, it will take you less than an hour to open up the hole so the tail light will drop in correctly.

On my 05 Expy, I had the third brake light melt to a mess of plastic inside, no contact with bulbs anymore. I bought a new OEM one for around 30 bucks at the local dealer and installed red Samsung LED bulbs in it. The reason I went with this specific bulb is that it's made to direct the light directly away from the bulb and not into any reflector around it, which worked well in the third brake light, making it bright and easily visible, and the reduced heat output from the LEDs means that I'll never have the problem with melting again.
