Tire size for 18" wheels on an Excursion w/6.0
Well I finally managed to find a set of 4 2004 King Ranch 18" wheels for my EX (part number 4C34-1007-GA). They have a few marks on them, some of which might polish out, but I only paid $200 for the set, so either way it's probably a good deal. My question is, what size tire will fit without rubbing? The tires on them now, which are pretty much worn out, are LT275/70/R18's. My EX is stock suspension, 2003, with the 6.0 motor. Thanks for the help!

265/65/18 would be the equivalent to the stock 265/75r18

But that is only if you run a 1.5” spacer, as far as I know nothing fits without rubbing unless you either swap axles or use spacers. ( 2” is the common spacer because you will not need to trim your current studs. )

Obviously, the Pirate meant that the 265/65R18 would be the same size as (as tall as) the stock 265/75R16 tire.
Our Pirate really does know his stuff when it comes to suspensions and other running gear, typing however is another story.........I'm just here to proofread for him.
And obviously (again ) he forgot that the OEM '04 18"s have the correct geometry to mount to our EX without the need for spacers, like all the '05+ OEM wheels need to fit our wagons correctly, without having to swap to the newer suspension and axles, of course.
Running completely stock suspension you should be able to roll on a 33"/33.5" tire with no or very minimal rubbing, so look around some manufacturers websites for the listed specs of their tire's options.

Thanks to both of you for your help. Rep points given. I have always liked the looks of the 285/75/R16’s (32.8” diameter)on stock Ex’s better than the stock 265’s (at 31.6” diameter). My wheel wells have always just looked a bit empty by comparison. The looks of the tall sidewall of the tire though, along with the fact that they are “pushing” the limit a bit on our rim width has had me looking for a set of 2004 18” wheels. Tom said “you should be able to roll on a 33”/33.5” tire with no or very minimal rubbing” and so I am thinking maybe to go with 275/70/R18’s (at 33.2” diameter)which the rims currently have on them (although they are pretty much worn out). Is there anyone who can tell me specifically with that size tire how much rubbing (if any) and where? Not second guessing you Tom, just trying to narrow this down and get pretty specific. The other choice is to go to 265/70/R18’s (at 32.61” diameter), but I’d rather go bigger. This is only an inch more diameter than stock, and I think the 275’s would probably look better, but it IS an option. Eventually I will probably do a V-B code or V-F code spring swap, but that is a whole different subject for a later time.
Thanks again for the help!

Hopefully someone will jump in with a tire size that works best on the stock springs, I'm lifted almost 4" up front and am rolling on 35.28" Nitto Duras (305/70R18) and '04 Lariat 18"s and only get a little tire on spring rub at full steering lock. I also have my plastic fender liners pulled back a whisker with cable ties.
