351w to 351m swap in an 85 bronco

found this on another web forum for you. hope this helps. sometimes you can find them on ebay as well as other places.
There is, however, one identifier on the Aussie heads that you won't find on the 351C heads; There is a casting alpha-numeric under the #2 cylinder's exhaust port on the head that should read, "AR-D1AE". The "AR" is exclusive to the Aussie head and is not found on the U.S.-produced Cleveland 2-V heads.

Why not?
The 335 series are good engines and that is a nice looking unit, although better in 400 form. If you can make it work then go for it. It'll certainly be different. Different is cool. At least you're not going SBC. That's blasphemy.
You're experimenting and learnign from experience. More power to you.

Update
Finally figured out a motor mount solution! Cut off and drilled out old motor mount stud, made 1-1/4 spacer, and welded a long bolt all the way through. Got them on today and work great with plenty of clearance.
Also have an aluminum shroud with two electric fans, wiring kit, aluminum overflow tank, and water pump pulley nose cover that will all be here this week. Rumor has it that I can gain 8hp from electric fans 😂
Will post pics soon

Personally I like the 351m/400 engines and have had several of them over the years that were nothing but reliable, I don't know that I would have gone to all that trouble if I already had a 351w but I have seen a few 302 engines tossed in favor of a 400. I think you will be fairly satisfied with it though a 429/460 would be better.

I also have a real fondness for the 335 series. I rode in plenty of old LTD/Towncar/Country Squires that would absolutely haul the mail as a kid!
I would take a 400ci Bronco, with a 4 barrel, champhered oil passages, closed chamber heads, and straight up timing any day of the week. The '78 F150 I used to have was an excellent runner. All the torque you could ever ask for. Don't ruin it with a big lopey cam.. The 335s were designed to move HEAVY vehicles, with highway gears, through a non O.D. trans. That's a t tall order, but they did it mostly trouble free for decades. If you have the chance now, DO the 400 crank and piston job. You won't regret it. I believe the rods can be re used.

UPDATE
Haven’t posted in awhile so I figured. Finally about to finish this project. Definitely a lot of hiccups along the way. The Holley 750 double pumper was second-hand, and had problems. We just couldn’t get it to run right, so I bought an Edelbrock 750 and put it on. Seems like right as I turned the key, it fired up. Alittle adjusting of fuel and timing made this thing run great and sound amazing. Couple things I didn’t mention before: had to relocate the transmission crossmember about 5 inches forward, and thankfully didn’t have to space the tranny mount, and the stock driveshaft still fits. Had to do alittle bashing on the passenger side header to make it fit between the motor, frame, and front axle/ crossmember. Holley blue electric fuel pump. Starter is really close to the header. Had to swap one plug from the 78 harness to my 85 and lengthen the oil pressure switch wire about a foot.
Hoping to have it on the road this coming week!
