I have a 2010 F350 Superduty 4x4 that I love. The problem is that it has a shimmy in the front end when I hit about 63 mph. Once I get to about 73 it smooths out. What could cause this? Thank you in advance.
I have found by experience, Super Duty truck suspensions require precision balancing since they are more rigid. As you know, small bumps in the road are felt where cars with soft suspension would go unnoticed.
Any off balance will amplify. A balance problem was resolved using a somewhat newer method called, Road Force Balance.
The machine checks for run-out which could be the result of a bent rim or manufacture quality issue. It will also detect and look for out-of-round tires.
Road Force balance attempts to match imperfections of the tire to the wheel and its imperfections.
You need to have closer to perfect tires, alignment and balance on a heavy duty truck. Not less
One more thing, you need to have someone who knows what they are doing with the balancer. Two places I went just didn't really know what they were doing.
At the third place (Les Schwab), the mechanic was very experienced. The truck never road so smooth. No more bounce at any speed.
A GOOD alignment shop will check it out for you and tell you what it needs. It could be a number of things wrong/worn out. Ball joints is one.Steering box... etc etc
