Got rear ended Friday. Told ex is totalled Tuesday

I was hit in the rear on the left back corner. Ripped of the fuel door. Broke head light. And major damage to panel. Took it to bodyshop and estimator took one look at it and said. Your car is totalled. There are no parts. Any ideas???

Hit in the back left corner and broke a headlight? <shudders> Do you have pictures? How much more damage is there other than what you described?

I'd check with another body shop. If you figure the average price of a used Ex to be around $6,000, that's a lot to throw away...

estimated damage is $4900. The rear corner needs replaced. Not just the light. My question is can these body parts in the rear be obtained?

Junk yard maybe, but rust in those panels is always an issue.

If you like the truck take it to a auto restorer who does involved sheet metal work. Time and material is expensive, if you're not doing it.

Here in SoCal I think you could source that qtr panel relatively easy. For example, the Ex that got my fender and door from is as straight as an arrow, and I know it still available for parts. It's a rust free California specimen.

Don't laugh, it's going to the paint shop soon. As soon as my wife say's it's ok.

How the hell did the headlight get broken? What hit the front?

Take it to another body shop would be an option. Don't just go by what one shop stated.

Agree...….parts are available and I would definitely find another bodyshop and secondly have a nice long talk with your insurance rep/adjuster as (today) insurance companies will spend 80% or more of the vehicles value for repairs in place of 'automatic totaling...………….

Post up a couple of pictures, so we can actually see just how bad the exterior damage is. As the folks above have said, there are rust free donor vehicles out there if you really want to save yours.

Elsewhere in the Excursion forum, another member posted a few links to Excursions that are for sale.

One in particular may be of interest to you, if it's close to you. (Scottsville, KY)

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...6565262466840/

Blown motor. Sold for parts and asking $700.

You might be able to use a lot of parts from either to rebuild the other.

Yes but as I mentioned beware. Known bad people, so face to face this one only and don't go alone.

If it's a gasser, and was hit in the rear, insurance would absolutely total it, a rear quarter is expensive, then needs to be cut out and welded into place, it's not a simple bolt on bolt off affair.

If you have full coverage, collect insurance and be done with it, or buy it back and pound it out.

Replacement panel

I had a 37" tire explode on my ex while doing around 80 back in 2013. The tire destroyed the drivers rear quarter panel. I have state farm. They will not use aftermarket or used parts. Took 2 months for them to track down this new quarter panel. It came out of England believe it or not. They kept asking me to take a check and be done with it. I'm particularly about my vehicles and want it done right. The check wouldn't cover 60% of the total repair. Was $12000 in repair work once it was all done(most expensive shop in the city. They work on Ferrari's and lambos etc).

State Farm will allow used quarter panels... or at least they did for my wife's Highlander.
