87+ A pillar trim interchangeable?

I'm curious if anyone has fit the pillar trim from 87 plus I to a pre 87 vehicle. Got a 87 (manufacture date of 12/86) sitting here in town for parts, curious if I can steal the trim out of it.

Someone has to be the first
It is only a few screws to give it a try.
The thing is with in our years is with or with out head liner on the trim, don't know if the same for the 87+ trucks?
I would check how tall the dash comes up between the 2. Maybe measure from the top door hinge?

Production date of 12/87 would be a 1988.

Typo I'll fix that it was 12/86.

From what I understand the 87-92 generation was the same as our trucks from the cab back body wise. The dash was obviously different but is the structure is the same, then it should be reasonable that the trim would fit at least at the top and pillars. Intersecting the dash may be a bit different but that's an easy place to make some trim cuts and hid them.

I thought I seen it posted the 87 up dash would not bolt into the 80/86 trucks even that the cab's are about the same.
Still say get them and give it a try.

I was thinking this has been tried because 87+ has aftermarket pillar pod support so someone wanted that. I believe they got it installed but it wasn't seamless (pretty?).

Ok this is what I have been able to figure out.

The later model pillar frames are the same shape for the most part. There are three key differences.

First the bottom is different due to the different dash.

Secondly, and not a big deal, the later model only has two holes vs 3 holes with the lower hole in between where the two lower ones were pre 87.

Lastly the part that interfaces with the windshield/roof molding is slightly different.

If you are good at plastic welding you may be able to have up an 87 and make your pre 87 whole. Or you may be able to fit the 87+ to it, just the dash interface may be problematic.

You know what I have found... Most parts I have been missing or overlooking are actually identified by their engineering numbers as that's what is printed/molded on the parts.

For example the wiper module was listed under the engineering number.

I'm finding more hits on trim by searching E3TB-10025A85-AWA then the P/N, probably because that's what junkers can reference.

This is because people think that numbers marked on parts are part numbers.

In fact, there are no part numbers marked on parts after 1956, just casting or ID engineering numbers, when applicable.

I realize this is almost a month old, but did you have any luck getting the 87+ to work? Everywhere near me all of the 80 to 86 ones are broken already in the trucks, and mine did not actually come with any.

About 4 posts up is where I abondoned my quest. The top part that mates with the metal windshield trim across the cab roof is different, and the interface with the dash as well. You would need to rig up the top or try a roof windshield trim piece from a later year in addition to the pillar trim.

I decided not to drop the money on the expirement. If I can find some junkers I will try it but not at $50/pillar.

Ok so I checked my junk yard site they had an 1980 and 1986 on the lot ran down, walked the lot for 30 minutes couldn't find the 86.... Because they mislabeled it... It's actually an e-150.

The 1980 had nothing really left. "Wood" Bezels are in tact though I'd be willing to pull them for someone.

They had an 88 with a pretty decent interior but the pillar trim is for headliners. This is what the base looks like where it meets the dash
