Aluminum F-150 Costs Less to Repair than Steel

I have to admit this isn't what I expected... But it speaks volumes about how well-prepared Ford was to make this transition. Incredible work there. Now, they just need to do it for the Mustang.

But why not the Ranger? Maybe the new one will be aluminum.

My guess is that repair costs less because most panels are remove and replace. Labor is the most expensive aspect of repairs today.

Back when the video was made of the guy with the sledge hammer hitting the new truck the only reason the cost was higher was because he actually cracked the tail light that had the BLIS system. That added something like $800 to the cost.

I must admit I'm surprised to hear that aluminum costs less to repair than steel.

My insurance did not go up at all when I switched from a Silverado to an F150.

It's more popular with car thieves for it's chopped parts.
