If it means the Bronco will get the 3.0L V6 Ecoboost and related hybrid system the Aviator and Explorer are getting it would be good news.

It could also mean the 2.0L they put in the Edge and Everest.

I don't think that hybrid technology is a high priority for serious off-roaders...

It will certainly help with CAFE averages, but I know the desirability of the 2.0 turbo in the Jeep Wrangler is very low compared to the normally aspirated V6. How does a hybrid with all of its extra electronics, motors, and batteries do when submerged in 4 feet of water? The extra weight is definitely not an advantage when crawling over boulders, although the low-speed torque of electric motors might be helpful.

I'll take a wait-and-see attitude toward a hybrid Bronco...

I think the prices on the 3rd gen will go up significantly if they **** this release up. I'd love some electric off road but hybrids bring complexity and that's the enemy to offroad fun.

Every time I think there might be good news there is a crazy article that claims what makes a Bronco a Bronco is an exterior mounted spare tire and "cool graphics packages"... Maybe no one told them the Toyors RAV4 also has an exterior mounted spare tire. Never once did I say to myself..."boy, that's Bronco like!" The term "removable roof panels" keeps popping up as well and I can't help but think Ford is trying to build interest in this pathetic excuse for a true removable top....

The good news is I really think the GT-500 will be a fantastic car!

🤷🏿*♀️ I won’t consider a Bronco with out a spare tire mount on the back. Old or new. Deal breaker for me.

We must be coming up on only being a mere 1-18 months away from having some true info from Ford so let’s just wait and see!

Most indications put production in JAN 2021, with perhaps some ordering possible Q4 2020. So yeah, right about 18 months away now at most.

The 'big reveal' might happen 3-6 months before that, perhaps the new summer Detroit auto show. Supposedly this will happen a few months after the new baby-bronco/Maverick/Scout has been launched.

If that's the ONLY thing missing, there are plenty of aftermarket external STC options for other vehicles - mounting a larger wheel/tire combination to OEM STC mounts and then bouncing around off road with it has been the cause of many an upgrade in both Jeeps and Broncos. An OEM STC may be fine if you intend to keep only an OEM-sized spare or engage in no real off-roading, but chances are a huge percentage of even mild off-road users (as well as the poser crowd, of course) will upgrade to something more substantial. So, even if it does come with an STC in stock form, there will likely be alternatives.

I can't imagine ProtoFab wouldn't make an STC for the new Bronco.

X2
Larger tires have also destroyed many stock STC's and tailgates on the old Broncos. I'm glad my 92 came with the inside spare tire carrier because I run oversized tires and it would be pointless to carry a stock spare tire on the STC. It would look silly and the tire is too small to run as a spare..
