After market hood hinges

I'm going to need replacement hood hinges. I read that some are questionable quality. Where did you source yours? Are you happy with them?

What year ? There are allot of threads on here with no real answer . The 53-56 factory style are notoriously poor and don't lift very high , there are high end very expensive billit - gas units but with very little feedback and not 100% satifaction . Lots have gone to the front flip hood option which appears to work well but leaves you with leaning over the fender for underhood maintenance . I'm sure more will chime in .

I did put the front flip on and really am pleased with it. The only real solution is like EBEARs avatar and have no hood.

Let's talk a little bit about the hinges you have. There are many threads about how to lubricate them and adjust their height relative to the hood. Mine aren't perfect but after reading through the threads and removing them from the truck, lubricating the pivot and adjusting the height of the hinges they work well enough to keep them. Just a thought anyway. As mentioned the various flip kits work very well too, and some folks swear by them.

the hinges on my 56 are not great at all.most of the time the hood wont stay up so i had to use a prop rod to hold it up.now i took an old prop rod from a car and used it.there are 2 rods under your hood,i took that prop rod and put a little hanger on the hood rod.now i drilled a small hole up front.i welded a small washer onto the old prop rod to stop the rod from falling through the hole.you will have to make that prop rod swivel.bring it down to hold up the hood, the swivel it back to the hanger.it works great for me

My truck is a 54 but the frame is a 56. The truck was in pieces when I bought it. I have the original hinges from both years. They are all well warn out. One is real sloppy loose. Others are froze and some bolt holes egged out. I'm not interested in a forward tilt set up. Staying pretty much stock. The after market billet hinges are pretty but too pricey for me. I see Mid Fifty and Midwest Early Ford have reproduction stock hinges. I am hoping that someone here purchased and that they work OK.
The drive train restoration is mostly done and now I'm slowly working of the body.
I appreciate your help.

I welded ball bearings to my original 56 hood hinges at the pivot points, they have worked well for me. The bearings are 1-1/4" OD x 5/16" ID. I used hex head cap screws instead of the orginal shoulder bolts.
