New to me F250 issues after attempted theft

Good Evening Guys,

Saturday night someone tried to steal my new to me 2005 F250 5.4. Came out to the truck Sunday morning, my locks are blown out and my ignition cylinder was drilled out and destroyed. After the police came by I removed the battery so that nobody else could try to steal my now unmoveable truck. Today when the tow truck came to pick it up, I reinstalled my battery, but now my odometer reads only zeroes. It should display 316,000 miles on it. Is there anyway to fix it? Currently my truck is at a shop where insurance will hopefully repair it. Shame as I have only had it 2 weeks.

You got Lucky. Mine was boosted just over a week ago from the house. Door lock wasn't blown out or destroyed and ignition lock has no damage other than a bite mark from channel locks. And I still have my tailgate. She was pushed away from the house....

Any chance you were looking at the trip display on the odometer? As far as I know the mileage is stored in the speedometer head and can't be erased without proper programming equipment. Disconnecting batteries should never do that.

Correct.. . real mileage is stored... and removing the battery will not reset to zero... trip meters yes.

otherwise WE ALL would have New Zero mile trucks.
same with used car/truck lots..

Sorry about your new to you truck..

Morning Guys,

After 2 weeks of fighting with the insurance to not total my truck out, it is getting fixed and should be back to me in 2 weeks.

Before the break in, when I would open the door it would show the mileage, 315,XXX. Last time I opened the door it just showed 000000.

I had 2006 5.4 stolen from my driveway about 5 years ago, some illegals needed a ride home about 70 miles away, that's where they found it. Relatively undamaged except for the drivers door lock punched out and the ignition punched and stripped.
I was told that my year was a particularly easy one to steal and that proved true.
You're gonna have to go with an after market disabling system in order to secure your truck, there are many out there.

Yup. Getting a Viper system and GPS tracking for it. Not letting them take it easily!

6 weeks later I have my truck back! Man that took a lot of work but I am glad it's back.

Odometer is back to normal now which is good.
