1971 F250 300 Towing Capacity

Did not want to walk allover Jonathan LaFountaine thread on towing so I started my own.

As I only load my 1971 F250 that has a GVWR of 6100 with no more than 1000 - 1200 lbs 4-5 times a year hauling is not the issue.

Would really like to know the towing limits for my truck?
F250, 300" inline 6, 600 miles on basic stock rebuild, 175-200 HP, Fresh C4, Headers, Dual mufflers/exhaust, Holley 350 cfm two barrel, 3.73 Dana 60 rear gear, 8.75R16.5 LT 10 ply all around.

Towing will be mostly flat land with some mountain 2000' or less.

3500 lbs but that is with a step bumper, not a receiver hitch: 1972

Remember that you have only a 300 so not too much oomph for real heavy loads

RichS2659 -- Thanks for your reply and information. My F250 has a class 3 receiver hitch with equalizer bars. It has an electric brake controller mounted in the cab. The trailer we are looking at is a 60 - 70's Shasta 16' Single Axel Canned Ham Style that has a GVW of 1800#. I know the 300 is no power house but driven right on 90% flat ground I think it would make a great old/Truck / old/Trailer combination.

I wouldn't worry about the 300. I've seen them haul not only a full size box load of wood but an additional 16 foot trailer full as well.

mrpotatohead -- That is nice to hear. I am real happy with my 300 and as I will not have extra junk in the bed it should work out fine for half dozen trips a year.
