Post Worth upgrade to C6 lower planetary ?

Preparing to rebuild C6, so doing lots of reading and research, looking for opinions on whether to bite the bullet and upgrade to the heavy duty 6 pinion planetary and thrust bearings ? These kits are pricey... but i hope to never have this transmission apart again, anyone done this with a C6 ? Is it worth it ?

What kind of horsepower are you putting into the transmission?

IIRC, stock, the C6 can handle around 600hp on the 3-pinion set-up. If your planetary has any play in the individual components, then yes, replace/upgrade. If not, keep. This would be dependent on your application and what kind of power you're putting out to the wheels.

I'm pondering the same thing and even have an e4od trans sitting around. I believe they are all e40d parts.

If you can do the upgrade to even a 4-planet or better, that's not a bad thing. IIRC, some of the later heavy-duty C6's that came behind industrial motors had a 4-planet for front and rear (trying to remember what Ken Collin's says in his C6 rebuild videos lol).

If you're able to strip an E4OD, they share the same forward clutch assembly as the C6, but have the added benefit of being able to hold 1 more clutch and 1 more steel within the same amount of space IIRC. I also think the E4OD came with torrington bearings throughout instead of the plastic spacers at key locations. All of these things add a bit of strength here and there, but aren't really required if you're not running a monster of a motor.
