I went to start my truck for the first time in a long time, it was immediately apparent the battery was weak as it didn’t try to turn over. As I turned the key a second time just to make sure I heard a pop near the battery and saw smoke. I rushed to unhook the battery and found a wire that looked like it got overloaded or something. Can anyone tell me what this wire does, and what may have happened? You can see it in the picture just under the battery tray support.

 

i don't see any burned wires in that picture, but there are fusible links that are made to burn out to protect the electrical system

 

You are referring to the one with the split insulation? Looks like a burned fusible link to me.

Charge your battery up and see what is not working.

 

Thank you guys for the responses. Here is a zoomed in picture. Fusible link? I’ll have to look into that more. It looks like it blew out just above the fusible link.
