Pros and Cons JAG, Vette and other IFS

Here's where you discuss Jaguar and Vette IFS options for F1/F100. Or any other IFS I might have forgotten. Any and all are welcome. If a particular system discussion gets going, we'll pull it over into it's own thread if needed.

Pros

1. Donor is a performance car of substantial weight.

I am particularly interested in this subject. Hope to see some input from people with first hand experiences. Seems like a hot set up, but alittle more expensive.

Pros

1. Donor is a performance car of substantial weight.
2. Jags of the 80's are dirt cheap in the rust belt as the unibodies are rotted out. I also believe (need to check before saying too much) that the brakes and stuff are stock GM.
3. Vette parts will always be available albiet pricey.
4. Jag is a complete subframe car, same concept as the GM's used in Effies.
5. Jag is owned by Ford

Cons:
1. Hi Tech look may not be to everyones liking
2. Jags are wide, may not fit without serious work. The only How-To I have is for a 50 Chevy 1/2 ton.
3. Vette donors not very common.
4. Jag is a complete subframe car, same concept as the GM's used in Effies.

Anyone,

I recall jag rear ends (of course) and to a lesser degree Jag front IFS being the hot ticket in the 70's but I don't recall anyone offering a kit to adapt the Jag IFS back then, nor have I noticed anyone offering a kit now. Am I correct in assuming that one is on his own relative to rigging a Jag IFS install?

For anyone that has never seen it - the Jag IFS components have a very light (not to imply weak)and sleek appearance to them. However, it is my understanding that repair parts are mucho dinero.

I know that at least one outfit offers a kit for putting the Corvette IFS (and IRS) into trucks -

Don McNally - Flat Out Engineering,
Orange, Calif.
714-639-2623

per page 88 advertise in Classic Trucks, issue from Nov. 2003.

No mention in ad of prices, applications covered, etc.

TCI will set up one of there frames for 28-48 cars to work with a jag rearend. You just need to specify the degrees.(don't what that is though)

Another source for kits to adapt Corvette IFS to 48-52 and 53-56 (sorry no 57-60) Ford trucks is Progressive Automotive (jus stick ".com" behind the name to get to their website.

Basic kit using all your donor car parts start around $730. USD. A complete hub to hub package runs around $2,400.00 USD.

The Vette set up has the same sleek, light and airy appearance as the Jag. (Again, not implying it's weak set up).

Gonna be pretty hard to do an overview of this paltry bit of info. Come on, Anyone got a cousin or a mother-in-law that has done one of these? Help us out here.

Throw me a fricken bone, here!

RMF

Vettes are Chevys, that's very bad

What else you need?

Seriously though, we have two choices. Obviously one is just skip it for now. Another is to dig up the CT or CTT article. There is plenty of info in there. Which issue was it in PJS55 John?

Carl,

Two questions -

1. Were you able to confirm whether or not the Jag brake components are/were in fact GM parts?

2. even though it's for a GM application, any possibility you might be able to scan the Jag how to article and email it to me?

Otherwise, we have no data at all relative to the Jag set up.

Thanks,

1. I'll ask around on some of the other forums I hide at.

2. Now, all I have to do is find which pile and folder that article is in.

Please try ask as soon as you can Carl. This one is going to hold us up if we don't get info soon. If you can't, that's OK too but we want to include it for you if we can.

Carl,

They're sure not a pretty as I remember them. Listen, don't put any more effort into it. Obviously there aren't many folks still doing the Jag IFS anymore.

Thanks for your efforts thus far though.

The pretty ones were from the old XKE days.

One of the best features of the XJ6 style is that the complete crossmember and all simply unbolts from the frame. So the install on another vehicle involves removing the old, fabricating new mounting brackets and bolting it up.

As Im intrigued anyway Im still gathering info and leads. Found a company in the UK that supposedly knows all about them and Ive sent off an EMail.
