Broken rear glass on rear shell

Had a little mishap with the weed eater kicking up a rock today:

From the looks of it, I can undo 4 rivets and take the bottom rail off. I already have the gasket out of the channel and all of the glass cleaned up. I am considering going back with a light smoked plexiglass.

Anyone else have to tackle this project before?

as a person that works with glass daily, I think you will hate plexi or lexan. eventually the sun will take it out breaking it down micro cracking or yellowing. or you will have a few thousand scratches in it and the sight will be unbearable.

i would take a card board pattern into a glass shop and get a piece of tempered glass made. as long as the card board fits the glass will as well. save a piece of the original glass to match the thickness and color. for reference at my shop in nocal it would cost around $175

I ordered a piece of UV resistant, high impact resistance tinted acrylic from McMaster Carr. $45 for a 2ft x 4ft piece. We'll see how it goes. It arrives Monday.

Broke the side panel smoked window of my cap with a rock from the lawn mower once. Didn’t realize it until I parked the mower when I was done and thought there was oil all over yhe gravel. Was the smoked glass in tiny pieces

i agree with the above poster re not using acrylic/lexan. Had that in my skidsteer door; the tiny cracks inside it over the years made it so I couldn’t even see out of the sun or a bright light was in front if me. Replaced it with glass

Some measuring, outlining, cutting, testing, cutting, testing, cutting, testing and installing later:

I have this same material on one of my shed door windows and its been there for several years and is still crystal clear. I guess time will tell.

You know what they say Looks good from my house.
It's not like you need to look out the window like you would out the front glass.

Looks good, I had to fix a side window on my shell. I ended up making it out of aluminum. Might redo it out of plexi

i know this thread is a little older - but some of the comments above helped me solve my problem and i thought i'd add some photos of my repair process... i got lucky and noticed the rear glass on the capper was falling due to the failed rivets in the window frame. the sealing gasket was broken by that point and not having many other options, i opted to drill out the remaining frame rivets and pull the glass out. i've decided instead of fighting older gasket material and struggling to find replacement material, i'm going to simply fill the frame with clear silicone and set/slide the glass back in. i've masked off the exterior window and frame. the plan from there is to wipe excess smooth and flush, remove tape and drill four new holes using existing rivet holes for several machine screws (universal head) with some simple washers and nuts on the inside. i don't have keys to lock the capper and i don't even know how old it is.. this should work for another few years. in addition, the right side window (fwd fixed portion) is sliding aft out of it's housing. if it slides any more, it'll need to be addressed.. more photos later this week.
cheers gents!
