Using old cam with new bearings?

Motor is a 4.9. The new cam had a sort of... unfortunate accident... would it be ok to use the old cam even though I already replaced the bearings? It still looks fine and no flat spots but I'm just not sure about it.

Bearings? Sure.

Tappets? they're usually kept with their old lobes.

Reusing a flat tappet cam is usually frowned upon but it can be done. If you do reuse it, you really have to use the same lifters on the same lobes they came off of.

I personally wouldn't try to reuse it.

A long as you kept track of where the lifters went you'll be fine. If not, get a new cam and lifter set and some break in oil or an additive.

Used lifters have to go on their original lobes. New lifters does not matter and can be used on a used cam as long it has not flat spotted or you will wipe out the new lifters in short order. You can put a used cam in new bearings. Ideally you are just better off installing a new cam and lifters.,
