Putting Fuel tank from 85 F150 into 85 F250 4x4

Is this do-able, impossible, or extremely difficult?

I think before anyone can answer that we need more information.
What does each truck have for a motor & fuel system like carb or EFI?
Also what tank you tanking of, short bed & long bed side tanks do not swap.

I say this because I want to say a 302 EFI truck I think would have a different fuel system than a 300 six truck and maybe even a 460 truck and could have different tanks.

Someone is wanting the fuel tank off my parts truck. Best I can come up with is folks have swapped short and long tanks, pretty sure they moved a crossmember, but I don't remember which way the tanks we're swapped. But I read the 4x4 has a special tank with clearance for the 4x4 transfer case made into it. Really wanting to know if anyone has attempted this particular swap and how it worked for them. I won't be able to get hands, or eyes on the project but I can find out the particulars. Donor is 85 f150 302 with aod.

He says it's got a 5.0 with Granny 4 speed.

I could not put a long bed side tank in place of the short bed tank as there was not enough room.
I did not look that close at if it would fit if I was to move a cross member as I did not want to go thru all that work.
IIRC I don't think there was room to use a long bed tank in a short bed truck as I did try the long bed tank from parts truck in my short bed truck.

Now the rear tanks will fit. I did have to use the cross member from the truck the rear tank came from and it did bolt in with out issues.
Maybe that is the one you are thinking of?

So guessing he has EFI?
Was this the side or rear tank, see my post above on why.
What does the 250 have?
You both could measure the opening the sender / fuel pump is to see if same size. That is why I was asking motor size if EFI (large opening) or not (small opening).

Short tank going in the long bed truck. Midship tank. I'm think short in the long might make it possible. I don't know if he has the bed off. I still need to pull mine.

That may work as I never looked into doing it that way as I was using parts for the long bed into the short bed.
Dose the person know the long bed tank is 19 gal and the short bed tank 16 gal?
I wanted the larger tank and why I tried the 19 in place of the 16.
When fitting into place and found it was not close to fitting a gave up and moved on to installing the 19 rear tank in a truck (flare side) that never came with one from the factory.

No idea. Best I can tell though, they have about 0 gallons worth of tank now, and are piecing a truck back together for cheap.
