Looking at Ford 1974 F100 as Project Car

I came across this ad. I will be going to take a look at it.

The owner states it has leak rear main.

I'm curious if anybody here with experience would have advice for things to look out for when purchasing this model?

I'd offer $4k. 5 IMO is a bit of a stretch.

And why the hell does every owner have to put on those horrible aftermarket steering wheels

Look at the one picture of the dash, the temp gauge is 3/4 of the way up. Is the temp gauge not working or does this thing run warmer than it should?

Way too much money for this thing.

"1974" has a 1978/79 grille, previously mentioned aftermarket steering wheel, also has aftermarket radio. It's painted with fugly black primer that may be "hiding sins."

Tailgate has two finish panels, but the truck has no side mouldings, so the tailgate isn't original.

Look very closely underneath for rust, the most expensive and labor intensive thing to fix.
