It seems like every time I start a new thread, I find myself apologizing for my idiocy or ignorance, but I figured this was the best place to ask.
I have a 2003 F-350 with the in-dash 6-disk changer. How can I (or is there a way to) get it to shuffle between all 6 disks? All I can get it to do is shuffle one disk. Owners manual doesn't specifically address this.
I went through this process shortly after picking up my truck. Even had a face-to-face with the company that looks after the Ford stereos.
I was told the stereos are made by a number of different suppliers and the CD6 "shuffle" feature was dropped for '03 apparently due to a large number of '02 units jamming. Too much wear and tear on the mechanism.
The tech told me they'd had trouble with over 60% of the ones he'd serviced. In fact, mine does not even list the "shuffle CD" mode when you push the "shuf" button, just "shuffle track" and "shuffle off".
He offered to swap it out for a '02 model, but advised against it. The '03 CD manual he had did not even discuss the "shuffle" feature.
I've grown to accept the fact that I paid far too much for a six CD storage unit! However, it is nice not to have to change your CD's for a few hundred miles.
BUT, in my younger years, I was all fired up about "installing" stuff on my car, so it was "standard practice" to get the "AM Mono Radio", yank it out and start doing surgury on the car to get good tunes.
Anymore I just order what I want and find that it's good enough for me. I don't spend 8 hours at a time in my truck.
Eventhough the domestics have a ways to go when it comes to factory tunes, it is a LOT better now than it was 10-15 years ago where the "premium" sound system meant TWO speakers instead of the one blasting through the top of the dash and vibrating with the windshield and rear view mirror .
I remember my jig saw getting a workout making room for them Pioneer speakers......good times!
I have a june 03 250 and my shuffle does work, Funny thing is when I got it it did not work until I loaded all 6 cd's in it now it will work with any # of disks in it
Thanks. I guess I just "assumed" it would shuffle between all 6 disks. My commute to work is almost an hour each way, so it'd be nice to have a little variety with my background music without having to listen to the radio and all those commercials.
Thanks again for answering my questions. I'm really enjoying the new truck, and this site.

Start mixing your own CD's... all you need is a computer with a CD burner. If you use the right software that compresses the tracks (yes, you lose a little quaility, but not enough to notice) you can basically double the capacity of the CD.

Yoson,
You've probably got one of the last in the line. The model-year change over is the end of May. My truck was ordered in late June and delivered in October of '03...............no shuffle.
Edit: haroutd, how you feelin', man? Getting all better?

A little scarred-up (nice one that goes from right below my lip to just above the chin). The spot where I got the hematoma on the right thigh is somewhat numb. But none of it bothers me. I'm feelin' better than ever -- losing a few more pounds helps. I took that fall after I had lost about 40. I'm convinced I'd have been in a lot worse shape if I had that dead weight with me when I dropped from the roof. Oh yeah, at least one good thing came out of it: chicks like the scar. And I've got a good story to tell.
