85 for Bronco 351efi. swap from 302efi

OK guys I have a question I have 1985 Bronco that had 5.0 EFI engine swapped it to 5.8 EFI was wondering what do I do about the different firing order on the both engines is far as the injectors firing the correct way without having to swap the camshaft. I already know that I had to get a different distributor the electrical plug was different but my biggest issue is the firing order and making sure that it fires correctly Could anybody help me out as anybody ever been through this or experience this engine swap problem thanks...

You don't do anything with the injector wiring, they are fired in batches and those are the same for both motors. The only thing you need to do is route the spark plug wires for the 351/HO firing order, and hopefully you still have the original engine wiring harness in the truck and not some messed up combination from 2 different vehicles. The distributor you had to buy was one with the TFI module on the side of it correct?

The original Wire harness is still in the bronco was never removed yalls I did was pull the 5.0 Efi out and prepared the 5.8 efi to drop in but I was told that I might have issues with the firing order what fire order are you taking about, is it the 13726548,because the 5.0 that was removed has the other fire order and that's why I was saying am I gonna have to swap cams I hope not But what I did was remove the injector harness from the 5.0 liter and put the one from the 5.0 on it so it would plug up to the harness that's in the Bronco the way it was ,,so what do need to do I'm on a deadline with this and need to get it running thanks

I haven't bought the distributor yet, but I'm going to because of the different plug, and the also the 302 distributor won't work as you no,, but why do you ask is there something else I'm missing that you might no?

Sounds like your did the right thing with the engine wiring harness, and yes the 351 uses the 13726548 firing order so that is how you should set up the plug wires. Also sounds like the 5.8 came out of a newer trucks with the different distributor connectors.. that was because they moved the ignition module from the distributor to the fender somewhere around '92. So you need a distributor for an '88-91 5.8 with the grey ignition module on the side of it, and no the 5.0 version won't work it's shorter and the oil pump drive is too small. With that installed and timed correctly... put the engine at TDC of cylinder1 before removing the old dizzy and make note of the distributor body and rotor positions so the new one is installed the same, the motor should fire right up.

It's probably been said, but you really need all that stuff hooked up to correctly diagnose the engine. PCV, EGR, o2 sensor, ground wires, IAC, MAP, all that except AIR injection/smog pump and catayltic coverter and the only 2/3 things you can remove.

maybe relay is wired wrong or bad causing the pump to continuously cycle? If not check Fuel Pressure Regulator.

what year is the 5.8 out of? this is important because the distributor might need a steel gear if the 5.8 has a roller cam.

like Conaski said, leave the injector connected as it was on the 5.0. Just run the 5.8 spark plug wires to the correct firing order for that motor.

you will need a 5.8 y pipe if you didnt grab one already. Also you will need a 5.8/AOD flexplate if you have that transmission. this can be found at any parts store new from a late 80's crown victoria. must be 28oz imbalance. 164 tooth
