85 f150 4x4 transmission
#16
So it is not the 4x4 shifter that is the issue but the auto trany not shifting?
How can it not shift out of first but will go into OD? It would have to shift out of first to get into OD.
How are you making this happen?
OK lets back up some.
85 F150 with a 90's 4x4 drive train that has an AOD auto in it.
Little more information is needed.
What motor and is it EFI or carb?
If carb what intake manifold & carb is bolted on?
Besides the throttle cable are there any other cables hooked to the carb?

Are you sure its out of a 90s model? My parts truck is an 85 and I came with a 302 and an aod. Even if they are newer it shouldn't change things. Go over it one more time. Shifter is stuck in first? And it won't go to any other position? Is it a floor shifter or a column shifter?

What I would check first is the shift lever to make sure it moves through all the positions. Then on the other side of the firewall I'd start checking connections back to the transmission. There are two or three. If someone swapped in a motor they may not have hooked up or adjusted the kickdown rod or cable. Not too familiar with the aod. Couldn't tell you right off if it has a vacuum line run to it. I want to say no and that it's electric. If all the linkages are hooked up and the shift lever won't move, unhook it at the first connection behind the firewall and see if you can actuate from there back by hand. Another thing to check would be transmission fluid level.
