Measure the Motor mount locations on each Engine Block to see if they match. If not you are going to have to do some Welding or have it done in order to change the Motor Mounts to make the 8 fit.
Cheque the bolt Pattern on the Bellhousings to see if yours will match up w/ the 8. If not you'll have to acquire a new one or get an adaptor.

I'll pay for S&H if you wish to just get rid of your I-6. ;-)

The mustang 5.0l differs from th trucks. First you will have to get a truck oil pan and some other minor cosmetics. The 5.0l in a mustang is not made for pullin like a 5.0l truck so hopefully you won't be doing much of that. The intake and heads are different but everything should mount up. I wouldn't stop there if you are going to remove your six you won't really notice a great deal of difference with a 5.0l in performance or gas, why not go to a 351 or a 460. How much you want for your six?

Why would anyone want to put a weak a$$ car motor in a big truck? Some people never learn!

STOCK4.9L->STOCK5.0L HO is going backwards
STOCK4.9L->351W is a decent swap
STOCK4.9L->460 is the ONLY reason I would ditch the 6

Apple to apples a modified 300-6 will beat a modifed 5.0 in a truck. Swap to a 351W or bigger if you are going to waste the time doing a V8 swap.

the 302 is going to be much easier to modify though... We all know about the bolt on and aftermarket parts selection for these things.

The 302 is a great engine. It gets a lot of crap on the 300 forum though for obvious reasons

I for one would not swap in a 302.

302 isn't a truck engine. The 300 is a much better engine, the only swap I would do is a 351w

I agree with Pkupman82. I have been using the 300 for years in my work trucks. Have out done everything except a diesel.

Way more torque than that flimsy V8.

I spend 75% of my time off road in strip mine country as a land surveyor. I use 4x4 on a daily basis and also no my farm. Have had every brand in 4x4 models and also V8 fords in 4x4 models. Have to be satisfied with older trucks now because they do not make my combination anymore. 300 6 with granny low trans and no differential in transfer case makes for a pulling fool.

If I can see it and the didtch is not too big, I will get there. 4" dia trees, no problem. Just drive over them.

80,000 lb semis with broken drive shafts, no problem, 28 yard roll's full of old house debris, just push it out of my way. JD 220 fold up disk with the hydraulics bled off, in the way, just hook on and disk it to a new spot out of the way.

My trusty 300-6 just keeps on earning me a living.

Look in my garage. Have three spares of the entire drive train just in case.

Current drive train has 275,000 plus miles on it. Only replaced one lower ball joint. Never replaced a drive shaft or u-joints in front end.

Try that on a chevy. Had a K-30 that lasted less than 40,000 before the netire front was junk. Broke frame at 60,000 driving down highway. Junked it on the spot. That was when I bought my first F-250 4x4. Never looked back.

I drove both the 1995 f150 with the 300 six and the 302 v-8. I will say that 302 had alot more guts. I did buy the 300 truck because it is in much better condition and has many less miles. But that 302 just had more guts. The trucks are the same 5 speed, year, and configuration.

I agree, a 302 will definately have more guts than a 300. But throw a load of the same weight on both trucks and see which one gets off the line quicker then! To add to that 302s cam bearing seem to wear out quicker than the 300s do. My buddy's 82 Bronco with only 120k on his 302 could barely hold 8 lbs of oil pressure. My 300 six had 140k on it before I rebuilt it held 35lbs at idle. Which brings me to my final comparison...the 300 six will take more abuse and last longer than a 302.

I don't think that Ford even offered the 302 in an F250, presumably because it was too weak. I especially would not put an HO in an F250. Why an HO? Do you want a hot rod truck? Better go with a Lightning or at least a 351 and an F150. But there is a very good use for the HO 302--wedge it into a Ranger mini-pickup and go blow off some Dodge Dakota 5.9L (360 V8) R/T trucks.

302s were available in an F250, I don't think too many were ordered with that engine because the 300 six is a much better motor for that application. The 300 is better suited for heavy duty truck applications because of it's long stroke high torque design. I like the 351W much more than the 302, it seems to hold up better when you work em harder. I do like the idea of a 302 in a Ranger mini truck, it would make a nice little hotrod to knock off those pesky little riceburners!
