My 2018 5.0 sounds like a diesel

The direct injection setup does make a constant/noticeable clicking sound and this is common on many vehicles with this setup regardless of the make.

Pretty much normal. Wasn't planning on it but OK with it after 12k miles. I asked about it too and got the same answer. Recently heard a new Audi that was worse. I start mine about 5 minutes before driving. Helps a little and makes a LOT of difference on how the trans acts. Seems engine and trans like to be warmed up and I'm obliging.

DI (direct injection) engines are definitely louder and sounds similar to a modern diesel (to a degree)...especially dependent on the gas octane rating that you use. Probably normal, but would definitely double-check with a NEW truck on the lot. Plus, make sure to run TOP Tier gas. I've added a PrtScn image...

Just got back from the dealership. The service department was closed , but one of the senior sales guys listened to the truck and said it sounded like a spark plug knock. He told me to take it in and have have the truck reprogrammed . When I was driving it over I punched it and heard what sounded like valves knocking. I have not ever heard of spark plug knock, but there is something not right.

Have not used anything other then regular gas. Just got back from taking the truck in for service. They told me that everything was fine and that the engine sounded normal. They said the direct injection uses more pressure then the prior injection system , which is the reason for the additional noise.

There are no vibration issues. The original reason for my concern is that my prior F-150 was a 2013 with the 5.0. It was quiet and ran different as compared to my 2018. So I got online and saw videos that other people posted complaining of the noise. Therefore , I thought I would take it to the dealer to see if I had an issue. According to them , everything was normal . I guess I will tell everyone I have one of the new Diesel engines if they ask about the noise ( which isn’t really that bad). It looks like technology and efficiency rule the day when it comes to trucks these days.
