A GV would likely be your best bet. Might be a bit more by itself but since you don't have to go through the whole clutch pedal conversion it will likely be cheaper and easier in the long run.

My experience with TKO's is it would survive just fine in daily driving a pickup. If you tried drag racing it, it would likely not last without the correct clutch(racing clutch). The shock load would take it's toll, and like most TKO's 3rd gear(weakest) would grenade.

I've run a 4 spd toploader in my '69 for 30 yrs, beat on it every time it's out. 428CJ/4spd/4.56 gears.

It too is a $50 for fuel to have fun one day kind of truck.

Considered a dana 61 swap out of later model truck? 3.07 gears, i think it was prevalent in alot of 1st gen dodges with cummins.

I appreciate a the replys reason why I mentioned top loader first instead of any other was it came in alot of Ford's and thinking that would be the best and easiest if I wanted to do a conversion hit the bone yards for the clutch pedals bell housing for a 390 from a Fairlane or mustang , I was going to mention that alot of muscle cars Ford's in the 67/68/69 70 era had 429/390/ mustang GT Fairlane GT that's alot of racing around stop light hits and burnouts , I can see towing something it wouldn't be a ideal choice but 250 is the badge bigger kingpins Dana 60 bounce omatic rear springs 8 lug A Gt mustang probably see more tourqe and abuse my truck ever will the cast iron external linkage top loader might be a option .

Yes I was reading up online alot of guys are having that issue in muscle cars with a Dana 60 since they only go as high as 3:54 there were some that came with a 3:31 hard to find though ... They mentioned the Dana ,61 ...I need to look more into the bone yards see if I can find one looking for my best option

'80's Econoline 250/350's came with the D-61 as a source. I had a '82 Chateau 15 passenger van with one. You will have to move the spring pads inward due to the Econo's frame being wider.

BE worth looking for, missed this one by a few years

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...h-carrier.html

Alot of 4x4 people out there looking to get rid of them, because lower gears are an issue with the offset of the carrier in the housing they used to get the high gears to work.

Well crap .....math wasn't my favorite subject I just realized anything is a improvement over 3k rpm at a 70 mph cruise ,say 65 at 2,800 I was looking at the Spicer RPM calculation ....... but I thought it was thousnds I would drop it's hundreds
So even to put say 33 " tires it will drop maybe 450 max I thought it was thousands !!!!!I'm really off 65 at 2,400 is better than 2,800 70 at 2,500 I'm at 2,000 at 45 mph now ...
