Sector/pitman shaft bushings for my 64 f100: B8A-3576-A

Hey guys. I'm in need of some bushings for the steering gear box I am rebuilding for my 64. Nos parts ltd dousn't have any and fleabay dousn't either. I am hopong ND will come up with something. Worst case senario I have to have a machine shop whip some out.

But I can tell right now that when I rebuild the original gearbox I'm going to investigate bearings in place of these bushings. I need two B8A-3576-A bushings for the box I got out of a beat up 63 unibody. But I have another question, I've seem this argued time and time again on this site about wheather or not to use gear oil or grease. I recall the manuals everyone posting saying grease..and I put some of fords specified grease in the og box a while back. But how does grease reach the top steering worm gear/ shaft bearing and race??

Thanks in advance.

Truck parts catalog parts list #6 lists only one B8A-3576-A for your application (1963/64 F100/250 2WD).

Also used on 1958/59 Ford Passenger Cars & 1958/60 Thunderbird.

KLIMESH MOTOR SALES in Calmar IA has 1 = 563-562-3241.

Grease, for example the #2 NLGI chassis grease commonly used for lubricating u-joints and kingpins, is too thick to leak, but tends to "channel" away from where it needs to be. 80/90 gear oil works but will, over time, tend to leak away in well loved gearboxes. If you're doing a complete rebuild you may not have this problem.

NLGI #00 aka "self-leveling" is the right consistency for our older gearboxes, it is supplied in the same grease gun tubes as #2 chassis grease. Aka "Picker Head" grease, John Deere makes the same thing as #00 grease. Having digested all of the above, I chose to use STP. I already have a grease gun that makes a gawdawful mess every time I try to use it, I don't need more. STP is thick enough not to leak, yet thin enough to stay put. It's cheap and available anywhere.

Ok. I have a stuoid question..what about the bushing in the sector end play adjuster plate? I seen a nos one that ahs the bushing already in it. But the diagram list it as if it can be had separatly?

and can the worm gear ball bearings be had separatly from the shaft and worm assembly or were they ever available? If not is there any record if the original size so I can run that by a local bearing and seal company?

And I also need the lower shaft to upper gear box seal thats pictured here...or thats what it looks like to me..otherwise how would the water stay out when the columns arnt always long enough to come close to covering that area.

Thanks in advanced ND- P.S the heads up on the bushings other aplications led me to a set of three on fleabay...thanks for the score been looking for weeks. So if anyone is in fix and needs one I have one I'd sell to somone who needs it.

Thanks for the info. I plan on installing new bushings, bearings, a seal and gasket at the very least..I'd like to add a drain plug just incase 80 90 don't work out lol

I just rebuilt the box in my '63 using NOS bearings and sector shaft bushing.. I scavenged two boxes to find good hard parts. I found a really good worm shaft and worm assy.
During my research I discovered that Crown Auto has a rebuild kit for a Jeep that uses the same steering box.---> https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...SAAEgJQivD_BwE Bearings are Chinese but you get seals, gasket and bushing.
I searched National seals by size and used this seal for my box---> Timken National 472560N
For box grease, I used Champion "00" manual steering box grease---> https://www.classicchevy.com/champio...ox-grease.html

I just did a ton of work on my '63, including aluminum radiator, electric cooling fan, fan controller, aftermarket disc brake kit, direct bolt-on Bendix brake booster, Ford master cyl and aftermarket disc/drum prop valve, king pins, new front leaf springs and bushings, tie rod ends, rebuilt steering box, rebuilt brake pedal assy. w/plunger type brake light switch, upgraded rear brakes to 2-1/4" shoes with upgraded self-adjuster hardware, etc.
I have a list of part numbers for everything I used if you need part numbers.

Whats this bolt on bendix booster off of? Does it bolt directly to the firewall instead of using brackets that take up a lot of room under the hood? Well this is a temporary gear box as I intend to do some custom touches to the original to compliment the dealer power assist kit thats on it. I'm also gearing up to figure out what I have to do to make the typical car ram cylinder work since mine seems to be a one off for these trucks so it would be simpler to use a cylinder readily avalible since its only giving 1/4 the assist it should and the only thing that hasnt beem rebuilt is the ram cylinder. Thats why I was hopeing to drop in some fresh ball bearings in theworm as it seems like it a pretty decent one on wear.
Thanks.

FT7 brake booster (Cardone 54-73515) bolts on using 68-72 F100 booster brackets and uses the stock adjustable shaft end from the stock master cylinder.
There's a list of vehicle applications here--> 1969 Ford F100/150 SERIES PICKUP 4WD Rod Codes FT11 & FT14 & FT21

These brackets--> https://leedbrakes.com/i-19296595-bo...k-1957-72.html

The preload on the worm bearings is 3-6 inch lbs.(unloaded column), the sector mesh adjustment is 8-13 inch lbs. Worm bearing preload adjustment must be performed first.

Thanks Nd. I guess Ill have to come up with something for a upper shaft dust seal. Unless the 65 used a similar one. How much play is acceptable in the worm gear? Mine dousn't seem excessive as it takes some effort to feel said play..but I've yet to soak it in gas either so..that very well could change.

The dust seal is available in the Crown Automotive kit that I linked.
Here are pics of the FT7 booster mounted in my truck with 68-72 brackets...

...also, setting the worm gear bearing preload and sector mesh preload will eliminate any “play” in the steering box.
There may still be play in the steering from worn tie rod ends and other related steering components.
