Ford will likely have to put direct injection on the 7.3L eventually for emissions. It's true D.I. potentially produces more particulate emissions than port injection engines, but they are cleaner in other aspects and D.I. allows efficiency gains through higher compression ratios. It looks to me like the 7.3L already has provisions for D.I.. OIl dilution may not be an issue depending on the location of the high pressure fuel pump. The G.M. D.I. V-8's have no such issues, their high pressure fuel pumps are mounted externally. I think the 7.3L would likely have an external pump as well.

I'm going to guess 425/510. Large displacement with reduced power equals a long living engine. I know HP will be nowhere near 500 or torque near 600.

I'm going to say 420 HP, 530 TQ. and very flat curves! It's certainly not going to set the world on fire in stock form, but will be a very viable option for people not wanting the high maintenance costs of the diesel. I'm more interested to see what hot riders can do with it in more-or-less stock form... I.E. ported heads and a cam.

402hp and 465lb-ft of torque.. Because that's all they need out of it to be on top at this point

It sounds like it won't have much more power than the 3 valve v-10. The 10 speed will help.

I'm surprised chevy didn't even top Ram's current 6.4 at 410 hp.

I dont think they need to because the torque is better. However it would help if it had more horsepower cause that thing is uuugggly.

if its gonna be truely a "godzilla" i hope the numbers show it. regardless i think it will be well above chevy and fords 6.2 is practially there already. fords towing numbers are going to increase tremendously and the 7.3 numbers will need to back it up. also new hemis are around the corner too!!!

lastly, the new york auto show is coming up next week so that might be when some more info will get released

I’m not too terribly surprised, though. Yeah, it’d be nice on paper, but the old, archaic GM 6.0 consistently outperforms and outpulls in nearly every comparison test. It doesn’t have near the most power, but they get it to the wheels better than the others.

Actually, it looks like the 4500/5500/6500 Silverados are getting a version of the new 6.6L gas V-8:

Silverado Medium Duty: Gasoline Engine Option Coming Soon | GM Authority

I think the 8+L will be for larger future trucks GM is doing with International.
