2016 5.0 tick below 2600rpm
hey guys,
I have a 2016 5.0 f150 with 138000 miles on it it has developed a tick around 130000 miles but is only heard below 2600rpm. as soon as you accelerate no load to 2600 its like someone turned a switch off completely gone? then returns at about 2000rpm. I run full synthetic and change every 5-6000 miles ? anyone heard or dealt with a problem like this ? thanks any help appreciated!

Wow, you drive a lot of miles!
I hate to suggest this, but it sounds like the known ticking issue discussed in this thread. Unfortunately it seems like the fix is a replacement short block, but I'm not aware that a cause has been identified. I was always under the impression this was fixed in later model years, but perhaps not…
Take a look at the thread and see if it matches your symptoms. If it does, I would start considering engine options for the future. I don't think any of them I've read about have come apart, so you probably have some time if this is your problem

Thanks Tom,
yep ton of miles eh!
I did read through that post earlier, I cant find anywhere anyone describes the noise completely disappears after 2600 rpm?
shortblock I hope not I don't have time to do a swap like that but if it grenades itself I guess I wont have a choice. im hoping for a bad lifter that pumps
itself back up with enough oil pressure hence the 2600 rpm disappearing. or something cam timing related? Im not sure how ford does their variable cam timing but I think I heard its built into the cam sprockets or something? certainly sounds like something in the top end but idk I wonder if this system could produce a noise like tapping 2 metal end screwdrivers together?
oh well time will tell?
thanks
