Are you wondering about oil filters?
I came across this video and found it very interesting and appears very factual and with almost 2 million hits. I am not offering any opinions so feel free to chime in if you want. Just trying to make info available to those that have oil filter questions. Sandy

I've seen other video of how awful Frams are. They haven't received the nickname "orange can of death" for no reason. Just an FYI, I recently had trouble with 3 different WIX 51515 filters and lack or oil pressure and engine noise at cold startup. Needless to say I was really disappointed. I also did a Google search and found other complaints. I'll just stick with FL1A.

I was really into researching oil filters a while back. There is a lot of conflicting information online but here is what I've been able to determine. The Fram Ultra Synthetic is one of the best filters you can buy according to a lot of people. The Fram Extra Guard aka the "Orange Can of Death" (OCOD) is a cheap filter sold at a premium price. It's not a great filter and maybe not even a good filter but it's reputation is worse than it deserves. fiberboard end caps really aren't a huge deal, but metal are supposedly superior, which I can believe. According to BITOG the worst filters you can buy right now are Purolators, due to an ongoing issue with tearing filter media. Prior to the tearing filter media, Purolators, both the classic and PureOne were considered an excellent filter. Purolator makes Motorcraft filters, but the tearing media issue doesn't seem to apply to the MC filters. Also IIRC Fram makes OE filters for Honda and Subaru, maybe others. GM ACDelco filters are made by Champ Labs who also make Mobil 1, STP, K&N and maybe some others. OEM Toyota Filters are made by Denso. Denso also makes OE filters for Mitsubishi. Nissan OE filters used to be Frams but they are now Gonher.

Have used Frams on all my vehicles. They did what they were supposed to, in fact am running a XG8A on my truck now. Supposed to filter down to 5 microns vs the FL1A. I take a lot of what these video's show with a grain of salt, they use anecdotal evidence and are very thin on actual scientific evidence, to each thei own I suppose. I view it kinda like the claims air filter and throttle body spacer makers put out...ehhhh...

My dad always used fram and I have always used fram filters and never had any issues. I used a mobile 1 filter once and noticed more lifter noise in my jeep. Think I'll just stick with fram since they have been working great for years and have the awesome sand paper grip on the end of the can.

well, I'll tell you this from someone who worked at a dealership. The AC Delco filters you buy at the store are NOT built the same as the filters the dealer mechanic puts on the cars for an oil change.

Fram Oil Filters for Ford NO - NO - NO
I have a 1994 Ford 150 XLT With 5.0 Engin and it has over 300,000 miles and have never used anything but Motorcraft FL1A It Cost less than $5.00 at Walmart and it's the best filter for your Ford P.U. That is the reason Ford puts it on at the factory when your Truck was new It never leaks and has the best Anti - Drain Back Valve of any filter for your Ford.

I used to use Fram in everything I owned. They were easy to find and relatively cheap and seemed to work. Until, one day, I changed my oil and removed the Fram filter to put a new one on and the old filter had started to come apart. The pleats has separated and some of the paper was hanging out the centre opening of the filter. That was the last time I ever used a Fram oil filter. That was 35 or 40 odd years ago now.
