1993 F150 E4od won't go into gear when in "OD" but does if manually bumpshifting.

Here is a series of videos for rebuilding yourself.I've watched the whole thing just for entertainment lol and it looks like something I'd have fun following along with for a worn out trans I have laying around. There are parts kits in the link (of his videos) for what looks like a good decent affordable reman. It's work but he makes it easy to follow along with.

Heres what's still got me stumped I did the test that you posted, the transmission did EXACTLY what it was SUPPOSED to do IE only allow reverse, 4th when in OD and 2nd in in 1 or 2 be used as driving gears, I did not get neutral, 1st, or 3rd in the R, OD, and 1,2, positions so why is it STILL the transmission when apparently it's doing what it is SUPPOSED to do? Please explain and elaborate!

I'll have to watch those and maybe I'll go to pullapart to get one to rebuild first.

With the electronics disconnected the trans will operate in fourth gear when in D. The overdrive clutch is on, so it does not need the overdrive one way clutch or the coast clutch to transmit torque.
When you move the shifter to 1, 2, or R, the coast clutch is hydraulically applied, ignoring the coast clutch solenoid. So the trans will transmit torque through the coast clutch instead of the overdrive one way clutch.
The problem here is the test that was run is useless to diagnose this issue. Here is a way to diagnose if you have a failed overdrive one way clutch:
With all of the electronics connected to the transmission, attempt to drive the truck from a standing start in D. If it does not move but the engine revs, try again in 1, 2, and reverse. If it drives in these positions the overdrive one way clutch has failed.
The good news is that you can drive the truck for a long time with a failed overdrive one way clutch as long as you move the shifter to 1 every time you come to a stop.

Ok heres a question for you guys, I'm planning to do a 351w based stroker (probably 393) soon, the truck currently has a 302, its speed density so I'll have to go to MAF anyways, my lan was to change to MAF with the 302 still in then going to the 351 once I've got the computer straight, doing some reading the 4r70w trans has a better gear ratio and I dont do any towing really and any that I'm going to do with the truck would be very light, so would a 4r70w be a better transmission to swap in instead of the e4od? If so I might just go ahead and do the trans and computer swap and get it over with, I can't get any conclusive results though on googling the swap, good idea or bad?
If it is a bad idea I might swap to a newer model e4od because I've read they're better than the older ones.

This doesn't have anything to do with your problem but I felt like posting it anyway.
I just installed my FOURTH MLPS on my 1991/460/E4OD. That is in about 15 years and 100k miles or so. The third was an aftermarket. Don't bother with an aftermarket, get a Motorcraft.
This time I noticed my reverse lights were a little glitchy. Then I got some hard shifts at low speeds. Then I got code 62 and 67. Usually I wouldn't let it go this far but I was lazy and I knew what the problem was. I've only gone a few hundred miles on my latest MLPS(TRS) but it seems to have fixed these complaints.
I also got the Motorcraft MLPS on eBay for $33 or so.
Good luck with your rebuilds, post pictures, ask questions.

Here's the eBay link:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Neutral-Saf...8/173759493639
The one I got doesn't have a Motorcraft part number. The box says Ford Service Parts. F5TZ-7A247-A SWITCH KIT
This is a question for NumberDummy. He could give you every part number ever known for the part.
