Automatic transmission factory color for ‘54 F-100

I’ve been searching the forum to see what the factory color of the automatic (Ford-o-matic) I believe is for my ‘54 F-100? You’ve all been helpful with 223 engine color. I’ve not been able to find that info on this forum. Thank you!

I see you only have 3 posts, so welcome to FTE, the best Ford truck Forum on the World Wide Web!

My guess is that it's the same color of the engine, red. The manual transmissions are engine color so I would believe the automatics would be too.

Post pictures of your truck, please.

They are? I've pulled many manual transmissions and never seen a red or yellow trans. Always black. Now the bell housing is engine color on the stick shift
As for the auto trans I have a 57 here from a car and it looks like it was argent silver

I'm convinced you are wrong.

What was painted is what customers would see when the hoods were raised on new vehicles in dealer showrooms, on their lots.

Engines, possibly the bell housings...if visible. Transmissions were 'au natural' as were rear axle housings. 8 & 9 inch 'drop out' carriers were painted red oxide.

For many years, trans shops painted rebuilt trannies either green or red.

I put new brake lines on my 53 215 Ford-o-matic today. This is what I found under the 60 some years of what I call "rust protection?"". Appears to have a little black that didnt wipe off with the oily dirt. Maybe no color at all not sure.

Left rear end of tranny before tail piece.

what series of truck? If it's a big truck sure as it probably had a DSO. Fire trucks were common for everything being red.

Thank you for all the input. I’m still scraping away and sandblasting the misc parts. I’ll post pictures here. I appreciate the thoughtful discourse here.

Henry Ford did not spend a dime on anything that would not make him a dollar in return...paint on an undercarriage was a net loss and therefore not done.
