The used vehicle sales tax sucks big time, example: My father gave my son his old Ford Focus, we had to pay sales tax on the value in Washington even though it was a gift. Moved to NC, paid sales tax on the value for new tags. Son moved back to WA recently and guess what? When he renews the tags, he will pay sales tax again.

I agree that the government taxes (steals) our money to pay their expenditures in different ways. We thought moving from WA to NC would be a decrease in living expenses, wrong. The only thing cheaper is gas, property taxes and housing costs. We pay significantly more in other areas, it's not even net zero....

My understanding is...at least here in PA...if you have evidence that you paid 6% or more in sales tax on the used vehicle when you bought it you don't owe PA any sales tax when you register it here. Only paid 5% elsewhere? Owe PA 1%.

When I bought a horse trailer in neighboring WI, the dealer there did not collect any motor vehicle excise tax....which I got to pay when I registered the trailer in MN. A more sore point is why the sales tax is collected every time the vehicle is sold.

I haven't won anything yet, unless Timmy knows something I don't. I actually doubt I'll win, and here's why: They are looking for people with a moderate presence on social media, not on a rather esoteric diesel forum. When I filled out the form, I had to fill in the slots for Twitter, Instagram, and stuff I hadn't heard of. I don't use social media beyond Facebook to keep track of family, and that wasn't on the list. Having a bunch of boxes with "NONE" in them does not bode well for my chances of winning.

Rich, don’t under estimate quite yet. Don’t give up on the power of the Stink.
