1904 carb / load-o-matic dizzy

Pulled the Holley 1904 off of my 59 F350 223 last night. The top butterfly valve is covered is rust and the copper (?) tube that runs at an angle above the butterfly valve is clogged with what looks like rust. I was thinking of getting a 1904 knock off from ebay. Or was wondering if anyone is using any other carb in place of the 1904? I know the 1904 has to be used with the "load-o-matic" distributor but I was also thinking of using a pertronix set-up. Anyone else do this and did you have any success?

The LOM distributor must be used with the correct carburetor, not the other way around. Maybe you know this already. Pertronix doesn't factor, the LOM distributor utilizes different vacuum signals only to achieve the advance curve.

If you can setup a conventional mechanical advance distributor for your engine then you're free to use whatever carburetor you want.

How many teeth does the LOM distributor gear have? Is it a hex drive? If you can find a conventional dual distributor (mechanical + vacuum advance) that will fit, that would be the way to go if you want to make a carburetor switch.

I haven't pulled it yet but I might do so today because the plugs aren't getting power. So I'll be hunting down that issue today.
