Carb rebuild.... WHAT A MESS!
Well, I got started on my carb rebuild last night..... I had NO IDEA my carb was this bad!
The dirt dobbers had built nests all over it and EVERY rubber cap on the vac tubes was ROTTEN. I just had to post a couple of pics of the dirt nests..... Yes, I knew it sat up for a while but this is just ridiculous..
I was driving my truck and except for a high idle, it was running good!
Check this out.....
The bowl was full of grunge and every piece of metal that could rust.... DID.
Well, it's soaking in a tub of carb cleaner now so maybe I can re-assemble in a few days. Those stupid dirt dobber nests were like concrete.....
What a MESS!

Mike, Don't you love how dirt daubers (or dobbers for us ignorant hics) can make a mess on an engine in a couple of days. They love my transfer case, and power steering pulley bolt the most. During the summer I mist a weak Bifen solution on any vehicle, tractor, mower, or welder that's going to sit a while. I usually keep a chain saw in my trucks, and have had exhaust pipes totally plugged in a few days.
Fixing all those vacuum leaks is going to help quite a bit. Explains high idle. I hope your rebuild works. I've done a few and on most I was dissatisfied and ended up replacing the carburetor with a modern Holley. These days I won't even consider rebuilding one.

My bro-in-law is a big Ford nut and he says I need to put on an Edelbrock manifold and carb. He says the 2 are tuned together and work great.
(we shall see)

Well, sure sounds like you live down in the sunny (HOT and HUMID) south just like me. Yep, the dirt dauber is the bane of my existence!
