A few last pictures to close this saga out. I may salvage some parts to make a bedside lamp. The drive chain will become a gangsta rapper necklace

Wow, that is incredible carnage. I remember following a medium duty dump truck down 395 in Washington, dropped his driveline and sprayed fluid. I remember seeing gears like this on the road, I centered the truck and drove over it. So glad you got the rig to the side of the road safely. Great post of the issue and repair. Still wondering what caused this. Shaft wear or bearing failure as Brettboat stated? Or did a bad U-joint pull it apart?

I don't think we will ever know the definitive answer as to why it failed. Incidents like this make me want to mount a camera under the truck full-time just to capture evidence.

So, in keeping with this thread. Given my t-case has 325k on it, should I maybe look at going through it?

Just make sure you have the correct fluid in it. Drain and fill with Motorcraft XL-12

So, wear is no indicator? I've driven more miles in 4x4 than the average bear.

And, I'd rather invest a couple of Benjamin's in a rebuild than go through total destruction .

I'm not sure why OP's case exploded, however I have seen reports of such happening with the wrong fluid being used.

YMMV

Am aware of the fluid issue as well.

Just found this video about poor grounds causing rotating components in the drivetrain to weld themselves together:
I wonder if the bearings in the tcase decided to weld themselves solid.

Well, I just managed to break my BTS 4R100. Loud bang and no drive whatsoever. Transmission’s parking pawl still works. Brian told me to take a look at the input shaft first.

That happen to mine also but John Woods tow master. Very low miles. He wanted as much to fix it as I paid to begin with. I had some close to me fix it. He said the forward something is what broke. It was diccolors and didn't look like a stock or american part. This is when he told me when I bought it it was life time guarantee. So far for that. I think BTS will fix yours if you want him to. I was to old to take it out and he was to far to go back to. But at his price to repair, not on your life for JW.

No movement forward, forward clutch possible. No movement backwards, reverse clutch possible. No movement either way, forward-reverse-clutch, input shaft, torque convertor, flex plate. That's my Big Bang Theory. Wish you lived closer. Has this vehicle ever been wrecked? Do you suspect a driveline problem? What I mean is 14 month ago you were posting the transfer case exploded.

You had an awesome experience too eh? LOL. I won't own an auto again unless I lose my leg, but my experience with JW when I did own an auto was no bueno. Three transmissions and sold the truck.
