Holy crap. No claim to anything here. I'd never have considered that, and will probably never have the opportunity again lol.
The thing about electricity is while it's true it takes the path of least resistance, that path is always all paths simultaneously in proportion to their resistance. So yeah that zap was grounding through the sensors to the computer. Sounds like only enough for the software to have an unhanded exception vs causing physical damage.
Congrats on your persistence to resolution.

I still have not fixed or even looked at the glow plugs. Will address that tonight.

hey, I have a 2003 literally doing the same, thing as originally posted. owner installed a new FICM thinking that was his problem. when it was towed into my shop, it was showing codes for high voltage on cylinder 1 and 4, and low voltage for 6. once reading through this post, I started un plugging injectors individually. once I unplugged #6 the PCM didn't keep resetting its self. truck starts normal. going to install a new injector tomorrow. one thing I did notice is that the PCM stops resetting its self once the injector buzzing was done. My Snap-on Apollo wouldn't let me do a buzz test, it kept saying communication error.
