Ford did a great job with it's lighter transmission. Now it looks like Ram has answered with a zf 8 speed. Looking at the spec sheets, the 3.73s are rated over 14k for towing. Competition is a good thing for the consumer!

That is great that Ram has answered the call of its buyers to put a decent tranny behind the 6.4 or they are just doing it for fuel economy. Either way I wish my 2015 Ram 6.4l hemi with 4.10 gears had that 8 speed. You never know I may have never came back to Ford if that was the case. Here is how it stacks up to the Torqshift-g.

1st= 4.17
2nd - 2.34
3rd - 1.52
4th - 1.14
5th - .87
6th - .69
Reverse - 3.40

 

I couldn't find tow rating for the 6.4, what's the 6.4 with 4.10's rated for? This is a great choice by Ram, the 66rfe was crap. I would have bought a Ram if it wasn't for the 66rfe.

 

My 2015 Ram was at least 15k rating. 15300 seems to ring a bell.
