Thinking of Trading the F-450

Hey Guys ,
I have a few gas 17+ work trucks at my shop but thinking of trading a 2016 F-450 Platinum pickup on a 2018 F-350 Platium SRW .
The F-450 is one of the nicest trucks I ever owner , only has 18k on it , does not get used that much and was offered a nice trade value .
How are you guys liking the 2017+ compared to the steel trucks , I think 2016 was the best year awesome truck but don't need that much truck but could make a move for the right trade value .

I have a 2011 F250 XL, 2016 F-150 XL with good options, had a 2015 F-150 Lariat loaded, and ordered (waiting) a 2019 F250 Platinum. The 2011 has been great but racking up the miles.

Personally I would say keep your 450. That style body is venerable. In 15 years I bet it will be worth more than a 2019 F350 as itís a 450.

Enjoy the one youíre with is my opinion.

the 2017 is a step up. and you may find a SRW gets more use. just make sure you have enough payload for your intended use.

I find the 2017 bed to be a little on the flimsy side when compared to the steel beds. The front of the bed near the back glass has a fair amount of flex when something is pushed up against it. The tailgate does the same when walking on it. I managed to punch a hole in the bed using a borrowed gooseneck trailer which had a lock pin that was too long. It dug into the spray in Ford liner and peeled it up. Then the aluminum was pierced with the steel pin. Not Fordís fault, but I think the steel bed would have faired better. Nothing like filling a hole in a new truck bed with silicone and patching the spray in liner. I think my death wobble is fixed after the TSB. The drivers door still shifts over rough pavement despite the dealer adjustment. The halogen headlights are horrible and the camera quality could be better. Sync software is sometimes glitchy. Having said all of this, I like the ride quality and power delivery better than previous gens that I have driven. Iíve had 20-21k on a gooseneck a few times near the farm. It handled it with ease. Time will tell how the aluminum body holds up.

One of my biggest complaints is with the front axles on the SRW they don't have greasable ball joints or shaft joints like the Dana 60 in the F450's .
I'm not sure if ford put grease fittings on the 17+ trucks .
I know 2016 and under SRW trucks would need ball joints around 75k and that really sucks .
I was offerened a good deal on a 2018 but still would have to pony up some more dough and this 450 is paid for .
Thanks for the insite .

I miss my 2016 F450! While my 17 is nice I have had axle issues. I attribute that to the M300 axle not being up to the task, I never had any issues with the S135 axle in the 16.

Someone mentioned headlights above. The headlights on my 2011 XL are hardly candle power, grab a flashlight and pay attention type of ****.

Yeah I know a few guys that had complaints with the M300 not up to the task , its looked like Ford was trying to save weight and $$$$
I'm in a holding pattern right now , I drove the 2018 loaded platinum , sticker 85k and with discounts 74k and they I would be getting 56k for my truck that looks brand new .... except for rusty driveshaft , never got around to painting it .
I don't want to choke down another 20k after tax and tags .
After driving the 350 SRW I like my 2016 better .

I traded my '15 KR F-450 for a '19 KR F-450. Ordered both trucks equipped to my likes. The '15 was a great truck and really the only reason I traded was if I ever wanted another new truck I had to trade while the '15 worth a lot. The new ones continue to increase in price and in another year I wouldn't have been able to afford another one. Also not willing to keep one out of warranty. I also wanted LED lights and the newest safety features. So far I've been as pleased with the '19 as I was the '15.

I really like my 2017 F-350 alum. body. That said I haul a Lance camper and a Ranger bassboat with no problems. The truck rides well and I like the camera in the cab taillight, You will love all of the goodies on these trucks.
