Yup. Dipstick already rusted in half. Have a new one. Getting the old one out of the block as muck of a pita as the studs. Haven't gotten it out yet but was spending most time on studs.
Check manifold on plane. One perfect one a touch off maybe a hair width. Was hoping the. Rimflex gaskets would be good without spending another $ 75 to have them planed.
Are you using stainless studs for the replacement? I would also consider using anti-seize on everything to avoid this problem again. Heat cycling plus road salt on parts that are made of dissimilar metals is a recipe for disaster as you probably realize at this point.

Mine were a bit off too, I simply used a roloc disc to level them "by eye" and then installed some remflex gaskets, resulting in no issues or leaks. My opinion on the thickness of those RemFlex is, they'll seal up just about any imperfections. Worth the $45 I paid for them.
With the amount of hours I have in this it would have been easier to remove motor from the start. Toward the end it became personal. The crusty pig was not going to defeat me. Pulling the motor would have been surrendering to my warped mind.

Now the sipstick tube is kicking my ***. 😡
Well I’m about to replace heads, reseal front, rear cover and bedplate so I might as well pull these exhaust manifolds off and ceramic coat them while my front cover and turbo cover are being powdercoated. She’s going to be pretty and a lot more work. I’ve had quite a bit of wrench time on her already but this will be the true test.
Good luck finishing up the driver's side (and with that Lotto ticket!).
Which style Y pipe do you have, the better flowing Ram's horns or the T shaped abomination?
