&%$$^& starter removal

Trying to get the top bolt out of starter. 2009 F150, 4x4, 5.4. All the vids I find on youtbe are for 2 wheel drive or a different year. There is a huge bracket welded to the frame for the sway bar, that is in the way. I actually got the bolt loose but can't get to it to turn it the rest of the way out. In this video the guy has both hands in there. NO f way on mine. Any ideas before I lose it? Thanks

If it’s similar to my Navigator, I used about three extensions to get on that bolt but there was no room to swing the ratchet handled. Was able to get my air ratchet on the extensions and zip, it was out!

If you think that's hard, wait until you try and get it back in.

Extensions and a short handled ratchet, just about every Ford truck is the same. The starter in the 97 7.3 and the 05 6.0 at work are the same, 24 to 30 inches of Extension and stay close to the motor from the front of the motor mount.

Had the same issue on my expedition.

I ended up using my 1/4” ratchet and a combination of extensions to get out past the front of the starter. I don’t remember exactly the combination, but it was my 12” plus another 3” or 6” extension and then you can get it.

Then getting it back in .... I think I used the extensions and the other hand to guide the bolt back into the hole. Get it started with the extensions by hand then put the wrench on it to drive it home.

it’s a pain but can be done.

I am looking forward to it, NOT! And once I get it off I can then start on the exhaust manifolds! The fun never ends.

Went out this morning and was finally able to get in a position where I could see the bolt. Used a swivel socket (taped so it would not flop over) 2-12" and 1-6" extension, put my 1/4 air ratchet on. 10 minutes total. Thanks for all the help!
