Supercharger?

Iím thinking of adding a supercharger to my Ď66 F100 with the 300 I6. Iím not looking to go super crazy in ďboost.Ē Maybe 5PSI but Iíd like it across the board. Do any of yíall know what would fit or work? Iím fine with piecing things together.

Also what would be a good carb to run with that?

It would work, but your going to have to learn a lot about boosted engines before you put this together if you want to make it last.

First off, you're going to want forged pistons and headstuds.

IMHO, in this day and age (especially for what you are wanting to do), there is no reason not to run EFI. That will make tuning much easier - if you run it lean, it will fail.

And personally, a turbo is the way to go.

centrifugal supercharger would be the ticket but would need blow thru carb. Same with turbo.

Efi would be much better but talking lots of $$ for supercharger and EFI. If $ not a issue go for it.

So, you got your carb issue ironed out, and on to the supercharger now?

you are prob looking at 5000 to do a proper Supercharger. Where as a cheap turbo for about 1/2 that.

Without any idea what your budget is it would be nearly impossible to help.

seems to be running fine now. Just spent some time messing with it. Still looking to move to something other than the stock single barrel but now itís running perfect. So Iíve got some time to figure out exactly how I want to go about building the engine

Iíd perfer to run a supercharger over turbo. I personally like how the the throttle input matches exactly what you want without the lag. And Iíd prefer the low end.

Ive worked with turbos and I love them. But I love a super more.

Im not exactly worried about the money. Obviously I donít want to pay more than I have to but Iím not so worried if itís $5k or so.

Ive thought about EFI but I know carbs pretty well and honestly donít know anything about the modern stuff. And EFIs tend to run expensive. I donít know something about having a carb just sits a little better in my heart lol.

I will put in headstuds and will do the pistons and rods and possibly the crank.

And Iíll be running 100LL when do get everything set up. I know about lead coking (Iím an aircraft mech) but itís really not an issue. Nice part is if I run it a bit rich itís equivalent to 130 octane. So I wonít have to worry about detonation

I say go for it! Prob would not need 100LL on 5-6 lb of boost.
Many ways to go about doing it and there are already many Ford sixes with Superchargers running around out there.
I think you could do it for the 5000 mark or less and have a very good system
Vortech does the carb units for under 3k. Weiand makes the small Roots type.
Paxton also made them but am thinking Paxton and Vortech may now be same company.
I do not think it would be that hard to use either type in your build.

It would allow you to have a much taller gear and even a Overdrive.

Sounds like a FUN project. Please start a thread on it.
I ran a Powerdyne on a ranger a few years back but think they are out of business now.

Here is a blow thru type to look at. Uses a Holley 4150 blow thru carb.

Or to save a few $ just call a few of the supercharger companies and tell them what you are doing. Get basic supercharger and make the bracket yourself.
Many companies will be happy to sell you tubing, connector hoses etc.
Instead of paying for a KIT that you cannot use all the pieces

I ran a Powerdyne on a ranger a few years back but think they are out of business now.

i will start a thread on it when I begin the process. I was thinking 5PSI just because I didnít want to have to change a ton in the engine but then again if Iím going to swap pistons might as well change everything else out since itís all apart.

That was the other reason I wanted to supercharge the engine. So Iím keeping that 3oT and going to find a race tranny shop to find out how I should gear the transmission and swap out the gears for stronger internals. I love the gearing as it sits but I would like 2nd to be taller and 3rd to be more of an over drive. And having the added boost from a supercharger allows me to do that and still tow when I need too.

I mean im already in 3rd gear by 25-30 mph and then that runs me all the way to 85 (but I donít drive it past 70). I have thought about the floor shift but something about 3oT I canít give up. If thereís no way around it Iíll swap to a floor shift but Iím hoping not.

Thinking Iíll try to get a root or twin screw style because Iíd rather have a positive displacement.

Something i forgot, ignition, what would be some good options?

dura Spark dist with a msd box maybe with boost control. But 5 psi so little prob will not need.

My Ď66 F100 Ranger has 3.25 gearing with factory 3 o T. OverDrive Plenty of TQ at all speeds with stock 352. Around 35 mph per 1000 rpm It does So well not going to change a thing.
