2011 Plastic to Metal Oil Pan Change Procedures

Just to make sure I'm doing this right - does anybody have the instructions Ford uses to swap the plastic oil pan on a 2011 F250 to the metal one.

I bought the oem replacement parts that were supposed to come with instructions, but didn't. I'm mainly concerned about torque values and setup/cure times of the silicone gasket material before torquing the bolts or adding oil.

Dirthawg - thanks for posting that. There's no special setup procedures for the sealant? Lay down the bead, bolt up and torque the bolts down?

It appears there is. The process they suggest appears to be excessive in my opinion. A thorough cleaning with brake cleaner is all I have ever done when using RTV sealants.

Did you get new pan bolts? the metal pan uses bolts that are shorter than the composite pan. You can cut off the composite pan bolts for the steel pan or buy new bolts.

Ford part number for new bolts is W714962 S437.

Sure did! I bought the OEM conversion kit from Rudy's. It came with the pan, bolts and Motorcraft sealant. It was supposed to come with instructions too, but didn't and I haven't heard back from them.

You may want to shorten your oil change interval (e.g., to maybe 3-4 K) after you put the new oil pan in. The new RTV sometimes causes lots of Si to makes it's way into the oil, and Si is one of the most abrasive particles out there. Keep that silicon from floating around in your engine for too long. Not a real big deal either way, but if you care enough to replace the pan . . .

They warped. Mine lasted 3 whole months before it was changed for leakage.

Mine is still working fine as well..2011, 157K miles..but I am very leery of that 1/4 turn drain plug..I can turn the darn thing by hand..if someone wanted to mess with my truck by opening that thing it would be pretty easy..
