Pull a wheel and 2 shields to change the oil???
This is kind of annoying for those who change their own oil. Removing NINE pushpins for one panel, and 4 bolts for another, after taking off a wheel? Wonder if the dealers will upcharge for the Ranger. This also doesn't make it sound like larger engines will be easy to drop into the Ranger... I don't rotate tires during oil changes, and on most of my vehicles, the replacement tires came from Costco or Discount Tire, both of which rotate tires for free...
Why, on a relatively new engine design for a new vehicle, would Ford put the filter in such a stupid place? I remember changing the oil on my wife's '86 Escort GT and the filter was on the back side of the engine, reachable only from underneath. Not bad on a hoist but annoying as hell on ramps in the driveway. The Ranger will be a *lot* of fun if you have to pull out 9 plastic pushpins (I hate those things) that are covered in mud, after you remove the muddy front wheel.
Chrysler put the Pentastar V6 filter on top of the engine, for instance. My old '91 BMW 318is has the filter on top of the engine. My wife's Subaru has the filter on top of the engine... Is this so difficult for Ford to engineer?
I anticipate that many "oil and filter" changes done at Quickie lubes and low rent garages will simply leave the old filter on, since the customer won't be able to see the stupid thing....

I agree 100%. What a joke Ford is becoming. $46k for a truck that doesn't even offer a moon roof, integrated keypad, trailer brake controller or tailgate damping. They are using a dated design and saved money at every turn. Couldn't put an oil filter in a better place because it would have cost money. Just like they keep cutting corners on Frozen door locks on the F-Series trucks. I was going to purchase my F-150 after lease end, but I am tired of doors that won't open or close properly despite dealer and my own attempts to fix it. I love Ford, but I hate to say, I think the worst is still to come for this company. They are lost........

That's like putting a glove box under the hood and behind the air cleaner - makes no sense whatsoever.
If things about your "mobility company" don't make sense, maybe you need to look into another line of work.
Part of m thinking the four cylinder EcoBoost was a "good choice" for the Ranger was SIMPLICITY... Obviously I was wrong. Ford has been doing this for 114 years and can't get that right for some reason? I just don't get it. Look for a resurgence in the "remote oil filter" market.

Opportunity for someone to make a relocation kit.
That is not great, but if you otherwise liked the Ranger is it a deal killer?
Remember the perpetually leaking valve covers on the 2.9? Clackity clack solids on the 2.8? TFI modules? 14x51/2" wheels? All while the Ranger sold wildly. 9 pushpins? Child's play.

Mid engine on drivers side , which is also the same location the front axle is taking up on the ranger. As it is you have to drop a underbody cover and remove 4 bolts on the F150 for oil changes I don't see this being that big of a challenge. Probably be faster than trying to get the oil filter off a 6.7 cummins lol.

Well~ gota agree ~ what the heck Ford was thinking when the put the door together is scary ~ on the back doors of my 2001 Lariat ~I find pop rivets holding a toggle thing that push/pulls the lock, unlock *** ~ This is the kids toyish damn wobble ~ flop can't work for long thing I've ever seen ~ Shame on Ford ~ Henry would be pissed ```
And you know where the spin on filter is on this 5.4 in my 2001 Lariat ~ yeh ~ right above the front dif ~ I can get one hand in there to unscrew the filter so the oil can spill on the dif.

If you prefer and enjoy changing your own oil, this design might be a deal braker. Put me in that camp. Hopefully the aftermarket responds with a solution. I’m a bit worried if it was an easy fix, Ford would have done it.
