My truck has started starting a little more cranky lately. Just wondering if a bad glow plugs(s) would throw a code? I am pretty sure it would but when I checked a few days ago I had only an egr code that seems to come and go.
The truck also seems to be cranking a bit slower then normal so I will probably go through all my battery connections soon and clean them up.
I was told if the glow plug light on the dash is not lighting or for a short period at first start up then there's a bad plug. If the light stays on like it should you should be good.
I could be wrong but this what a friend of mine told me that has a 6.0

Yep, Been There Done That.
Also what are your local temps running at night?
You must be posting from your phone or tablet. Did not get your truck info.
05 F350 CCLB KR 6.0 Powerstroke, all stock.
I don't have access to the 2005 workshop manuals right now but should be able to get at them later.
All this info in these PDFs is from the 2006 book for that year, So if you see something that you would
like more info on let me know and I will get that computer running so I can get the files.
The software people must be screwing around with things. This post really get screwed up
and it killed some of the files I uploaded with no reason.
That should also cover the connectors. I saved a bad glow plug harness
after one job and use the harness as a testing tool. That way I am not
having to fight the connectors to back probe the connector.
That gives you an easy way to check the resistance from the glow plug
module to the adaptor I made out of the old harness.
Thanks everyone for your replies, been busy as heck at work the past week.
My glow plug light is acting normal, nothing has changed there. No other lights, and no codes since I last posted. Checking using both Torque Pro and Forscan.
Sean, it has been anywhere from 20s above to teens below zero at night. Morning starts havent been much of an issue at all because i plug it in overnight. I have mostly noticed it being cranky in the afternoon when leaving work. That being said I have not been driving it much over the past week or so because it has been hooked to the gooseneck. I did fire it up the other with the temp in the mid 20s and it fired up fairly nice, not at all that cranky. I havent gotten around to checking the battery connections yet but hope to this week, get the truck ready for a 400 mile trip. If the truck ends up going back to being cranky I will definitely utilize the PDFs you provided Sean.
For starters, get the batteries load tested to be sure you are getting good RPM's cranking, unless you have ruled those out already.
As mentioned earlier, you would likely have a code or two, but even with one glow plug not working it should pop right off.
I've seen trucks with two not working and still fire off at zero* with not a lot of fuss, just taking a few extra seconds to clear out the cold cylinders.
What oil to you run?
Could also be a case of stiction with the injectors. Does it run crappy until it warms up a little bit?
Fuel filters up to date and anti gel at the proper rate?
I haven't checked the batteries in any way other than putting my maintainer on them each one night. They are only a little over a year old (1/3/2018) so my assumption is they are in good shape. I routinely check my FICM voltage with Torque Pro and the lowest I have ever seen is 48V usually it runs between 48.5V and 49.5V. I did notice last night that while sitting at a hot idle with all the lights on, heater, radio, etc and the gooseneck hooked up that vehicle voltage was at 12.9V for a bit, FICM stayed at 48.5V+ though.
I run 5w-40 Delo. Really the only issue I am noticing is it starts and sounds quite cranky, or aggressive, or maybe diesel-y for a few seconds before flattening out to a nice idle. Probably 10-15 seconds at the most, but usually not that long.
Hoping to get the opportunity tomorrow to clean the battery connections. Also looking at upgrading alternators before the trip but not sure if that will happen. Looks to be about $700 to do the Leece Neville and the wiring kit from ficmrepair.com and I don't know if thats in the cards as the trip is already looking to be about a $4k trip.
If you have time download those PDF files to something like a flash drive. There are times when they do updates to the site files come up missing. I’ve bookmarked a lot of files that Yahiko has posted in the past and now most are missing. So save them somewhere before their gone.
OOPS.
Ask for them and I can see what I can do to put hem back up.
I was having some issues with the storage on FTE and deleted some of the older stuff.
I have a web server and I think it has enough room. I need to find a way to index the files first.
