Found where the noise came from

Dad came over the other day in his 2004 F250 and I heard a grind - squeal when he stopped. Asked him how long that was going on and he said "just started". Lug nut must have been impacted on hard. Took heat and a long breaker bar to finally get them off and this is what we found. Pistons all the way out, one pushed in but the other cracked. Better now.

If they were that tight and it took heat and a long breaker bar to remove the lig nuts. You will need new studs and lug nuts for the rear axle. Dont buy anything other than ford studs

Did you have those rotors turned or did you get new?

I call BS on the statement highlighted in bold above, BIG TIME. Be thankful your dad didn't kill himself, or anyone else he was sharing the road with.

Yeah there's no way that just started. That's the worst I've ever seen.

I’ve had some bad rotors that were warped, scored, burnt, etc. But that has to be the worst. Looks like it’s been happening for awhile.

No kidding it didn't just happen but it also didn't take too long for it to grind down. Dad doesn't pay much attention to noise and as long as it works, it's OK. I took care of it as soon as I heard it. Couldn't hear it it from the cab driving these dirt roads here between the holes and the rattle of the truck to start with. When I replaced the pads on the other side, the brake material had separated from the metal backing on the inside pad but was still in place and hadn't fallen out. Ford has some real issues with calipers sticking. Once it starts it doesn't take long to wear down. My 2008 F350 dually has needed all 4 replaced for seizing and I have less then 60k on it. One rear got down to metal on the rotor but had just started when it was found and rotor and caliper replaced. The others found because of the brake smell.

As for BS, I wanted to contribute to the forum and share to it in a positive way. Didn't figure I'd get berated for it.

quite grinding???

Exact same thing happened to me. It wasn't till I ran across a great deal on slotted/dimpled rotors and decided to put them on did I find the damage. No noise or grinding and nothing in the peddle. Weird.

Yeah I actually just pulled off my fronts earlier because of a wicked left pull and grinding during braking. Right caliper bottom piston stuck, killed pad and rotor. Front left still had 4 or 5/32nds and the rotor was fine. I've heard of all the sticking caliper issues with these trucks, but geez. My slide pins didn't seem very happy either.
